My brother bought an SA and now I'm tempted to the orange side...

When you are used to the power of the 1290
It will be a step down to the 1050
And if the 1050 is anything like the 1290 in rain mode
Give me the 1290
Especially when overtaking!!
Was in Germany yesterday
256 kmph was 240kmph on the gps up to about 220-225on the gps it was as stable as can be, at higher speed a very very slight weave
This was done without any cases on board.

Boy does it shift

Well, just back from a 3k trip to corsica on my 1290sa, and its a real piece of sh*t, doesnt go, doesnt handle, breaks down all the time, vibrates, heats my legs to gas mark 7, uses loads of fuel, is really uncomfortable after 2.5 miles, clocks are rubbish, buttons awkward to use,an uninspiring and boring ride that is not helped by its lack of toys to play with ....I think that just about covers it...oh nearly forgot, that exhaust note is terrible!

there, hopefully all the bwm owners can feel superior about their most popular selling bikes again!!:aidan

Just read the whole string. Wow - a lot of strong opinions and interesting (and occasionally entertaining) to hear different points of view.

Only claim I really have a problem with with whoever said the BMW/GS is not a bikers bike. What a tit!! It's not what you ride that makes you "a biker"...it's the fact that you do ride, regardless of brand or type of bike.

If you like it and it makes you happy...who gives a shit what anyone else thinks. BMW, KTM or Hyosung. If you're on 2 wheels then good for you...you're a biker my my eyes...regardless of what the brand bigots say.

Thanks mate. Just wish the power parts catalogue wasnt so tempting!
LOL yes you can spend a load in there all right. When you pick up the bike you will get your own paper copy as well just in case you missed something. I am assuming you ordered a new one right enough but maybe you didn't.

I got the new copy of the 2016 stuff today. Yes - got a new one and hopefully collecting in a week or so when the alarm and a few other goodies are installed.

If you do mostly proper off road then the R is the best choice. It's the best big engined off road bike you can buy but the 21" front wheel isn't so good on the road. If your mostly road or unfinished roads then the 1190 adv or 1290 SA is probably a better choice. The 1290 is the most sorted and has all the toys but you pay a premium for that. It's also a bit heavier but for long distance riding it's spot on.

Only just looked at this thread. I bought the 1190r back in Apr this year (2015). Never really liked V twins before and generally Jap straight fours. However I must say that this bike is the dogs bollocks. I have added the majority of the Tourateck bits which makes it look even better. As for the 21" front wheel I have not noticed the difference. For me the handling is spot on for V fast road riding. Yet to take it properly off road. The only thing is that the bike is very high. Ok for me at 6' 2" with long legs. I have not rode 1290 SA so can't compare but I can say the 1190r is something very special and better than the standard 1190.

Just need the weekend to come soon! :aidan
