Slight change of plan.....................I was going to a Trial this morning, but when I called about it ................it was a Championship Cup Trial, for expert classes

Oh well hey-ho...............I decided to do some trails in the Yorkshire Dales because the weather was stunning

I set off towards Masham and did this trail near Nosterfield - marked as a road with it's own roadsign - but it's a road to nowhere:D

No fuel @ Masham:( - mysteriously closed garage, never mind there will be some @ Leyburn

This trail is on the bends, just after Masham - except no-one knows it's there:confused:

Next green lane is high above Ellingstring and on Colsterdale Moor, near Slipstone Crag..................lovely views

Leyburn for fuel and then this cheeky little gnarly trail, just off the Market Place..............again unknown to many and a bit hairy in places

Then onwards towards West Witton and then climb up towards Carlton and then run along the lane towards West Burton, splendid views of Wensleydale

Then on towards Grassington for lunch at the BMW Bring & Buy @ Cracoe - saw a pretty shepherdess on a Quad on the way - Little Bo Peep:green gri

Plenty of BMW bargains to be had, but none that I could carry - good food of pie and peas and mug of tea for £2 and a general natter.

So................onwards and upwards

Great views of Wharfedale near Kilnsey

Back up to Cray and then over Stalling Busk to Stake allotments, one of my favourite Dales trails for its views and gnarly terrain, the climb up is particularly tricky with some rocksteps to catch out the unwary

At the end of Stalling Busk, I cut down to Marsett to do another lovely trail up the river, in the bottom

After coming out on Carperley Green, I took the Crag Road... high above SemerWater to do the final trail of the day - Cam High Road which brings you out above Gayle

Down to Hawes for a quick cuppa and back home along some of the Dales finest country roads

Let the washing commence.....................happy days

Paradise of a day out............... in some of Yorkshire's finest landscapes

Fantastic report JB, your very lucky up there.
Make the most of it because one day you'll get a b*stard county council like Somerset and they close all your trails

We are and it's constantly in my mind...................I prefer to go out alone, leaving no marks and little noise, stealth is key and respecting other users, so we try to give positive image

Many of the trails I use, are pretty unused and unknown to the general trailriding populace..............they're not particularly challenging ones, but fun and suitable for the XChallenge without risking bike damage or injury hopefully

Very nice:thumb.......do you know, in the time we were both out having a great time on our bikes in the sunshine, there were seven pages of shite posted on here:augie

Beggar's belief on a day like this, pity about the Trial, I rang for directions and he told me it was gonna be tricky, but I was welcome to be an Observer (on a wet day, I might have been:augie)

Your Trial looked good.....................you need to move up to Clubman:D

Looks like a fantastic day - really wish we had even a fraction of those sort of trails down here!

Yes, I won my class by a mile and most said I should move up a class although one of the guys suggested just building my confidence first:nenau

The one with the Byway sign goes on for 8-9 miles - all completely on top of the fells................it is sublime, like being in another world

Hows the best way of finding out the legal trails in your area then ?? I fancy a bit of trial riding :)

Join the TRF, they know all the latest stuff and you can rideout with them

Most of the stuff is in my head, from years ago

I tend to stay away from the popular trail stuff, seeking out the quirky, little known and thus used trails.................that way locals aren't likely to campaign for a TRO Closure:thumb

Join the Trail Riders Fellowship, unless you have thousands of hours to visit County Council offices to research routes.
For £40 per annum you have access to the wealth of local knowledge...... you will be amased how many green lanes are in your local area....

Timpo.

I may do the same f I get another off road bike cos there's bugger all BOATS marked on the Somerset / Devon maps now.
Q: If you don't like riding in groups, how easily will you get that knowledge, will they provide lists or maps? Or is it a case of joining rides and picking it up as you go?
