Have been considering a GS for quite some time, and today with the help of 2 friends we decended on Prestige in Bexleyheath.
Between the three of us we took out an 1150GS, 1200GS and the K1200R, I had been considering getting either an 1150GS(used) or 1200GS (new or used). One of the guys loves the streetfighter type bike and was drooling over the K.
We set off early this morning and went for a fantastic run (bit cold, but proved just how good the BMW heated grips are!)
I was on the 1200GS, Pete on the K, and Jeeves on the 1150.
We stopped after a good run, a mix of town, motorway, twisties and A roads, had a chat, grinned, then swapped, I went on the 1150, Pete on the 1200GS and Jeeves on the K.
This was when I realised that although the 1200 and 1150 GS looked similar, they are completely different. It took me a long run to settle in to the 1150 and to be totally honest I really didn't enjoy it in the slightest.
After another run similar to the first we stopped, had a smoke, chat then swapped again. I got on the K, Jeeves on the 1200GS and Pete on the 1150GS.
Had a bit of motorway, town, no so much twisties, but I thought "lets see what this 163BHP monster can really do".... opening the throttle, in a second the guys became the size of ants in the mirrors and I was gone.
It didnt take long before I had lost them, so went for a play before we all met back at the dealers.
I took my lid off to reveal the biggest grin I have had ever. I cant get the 1200GS out of my head, loved it, I mean really loved it. I slipped in to a zone that I have never ever had on a bike before, complete comfort, I mean unreal, shoulders, elbows, back, all relaxed and ejoying ever minute of it. I can see how easy it would be to really clock up the mileage on these.
Superb day, had a chat with the dealer, ideally I want minimum from the 1200 is ABS, Heated grips, hand guards, cylinder guards, top box.... he worked out on previous used models and basically put a price together which I am more than happy with, now just goto sell my old bike before making the order.....
Today has been probably the best saturday in a long time.... cant wait....
By the way, the K1200R is the mutts nuts, if your considering a streetfighter type bike, this think has muscle on tap and will give you a grin each and every time.
