I've just got in from trading in my Ducati ST2 for a 2006 R1200GS! After test riding it last weekend it was obvious to me that I had found my perfect bike!!
I've so excited all week about collecting it. The last time I felt like that was when I was 16 and waiting to collect my Honda SS50!! If it can do that to a 40 year old then if you're on this forum considering whether to buy one or not a GS, take my advice....... Get down the bike shop now and try one!!!:JB

Sooooo jealous. I've bought a Gs1200 but I don't pick mine up til 1 May. I know exactly the feeling your talking about. I've not stopped thinking about it since. Happy riding :D

Me and a mate bought an SS50 for a fiver when we were teenagers, great bike :)

On my first GS now and loving it.

Welcome aboard !!

:)Thanks folks!!

I collected it late afternoon yesterday, but was so excited I thought it might be best to take it straight home and calm down a bit first!!!! I clocked up 140 miles on it today without going any further than 10 miles from home, and I'm so pleased I bought it!!

As for the SS50, I had the all singing, all dancing model!!! 5 speed gearbox and cable operated front disc!! Water used to seep into the back of the caliper and freeze solid in winter causing the brake to bind on when parked up! I used to take a thermos with me to thaw it out then ride off dragging the brake to dry it out......... God, I miss it!!!:D

I had an AP50 and a FS1E, never was a fan of them Honda Diesels, the AP was faster but I actually loved the FS1E - It was 11 years old with one previous owner (bought from new and used for a year then left for the next 10) wish I had kept it - sold it for a mere £150 to some lad who hacked the seat / mudgaurd in half, fitted drop bars and threw away the peddle gubbins - it went from almost mint to a heap 'o shite in hours.

Anyway, yes the GS, they seem to make sense once your past 40, maybe sooner for those that give them a chance before getting "old", spent a few hours today riding about on tiny little desrted back roads and enjoying a bike at speeds that are unlikely to get me locked up. For the last 20 years I thought I had no decent roads near me, turns out I just had the wrong bikes in the garage :blast

Welcome to the forum, enjoy your new mount.

My neighbour had an SS50, it was the first geared bike I'd ridden (clutch an all that). Up until then I'd only ridden a Puch Maxi. I went on to by a Kreidler. I doubt many have heard of them let alone ridden one!

Congrats & enjoy.....:thumb2

Got my GSA last year and enjoy every minute I'm on it...even in the rain!! :D

I've only ever owned 2 bikes SS50 in 1979 & GSA in 2010 - a lifetime in between!
From one classic to another
Enjoy - I'm sure you will :thumb:clap
