Sometimes here, sometimes there...
So, I give the TB a good, stiff work-out over the weekend on the South West Peninsula Rally - a kind of two-wheel treasure hunt, involving a 300-mile plus Saturday of everything from fast A-roads to goat-tracks.

Got back early Sunday, tired and dirty but happy. Washed bike and self, prior to heading off to Heathrow for a flight. Wheeled bike into garage, put it over turntable and attempted to lift it onto the centre-stand. Weight in the (still-fitted luggage) and the change to the stand angle caused by the turntable meant a little more effort was required than normal, so I duly applied more weight through my right foot when BANG...a noise like a bullet, a feeling like I'd been shot in the leg and stars were in the air!

Turns out I'd torn a calf-muscle and am looking at 8-12 weeks recovery time - currently on crutches.

Fortunately, the side-stand was down so at least I didn't get squashed by the bike at the same time, so I guess it could have been worse.

So easy to do something like this, watch out boys. Those bikes can bite...

:mad::mad:

Ouch!!!!! there's a warning to me - when the panniers fully loaded the GS is a bit if a strain to get onto the centre stand - time to re-evaluate my technique.

same here.....I try to get mine onto a dolly / motor mover and have to take all luggage off before attempting. I now have a small 2cm platform I use but it all has to be aligned in order to make the lift - motor mover, platform, bike, a lot of hassle. Last time just about gave myself a hernia getting it onto the center stand on the dolly. Have taken note.........

Same thing happened to me , except the bike wasn't loaded , just had some flimsy trainers on,you're right when you said it sounded like a bullet......lesson learnt

mine bit me big time last night, put my one week old GSA TE up on the bike ramp like I do always and it slipped backwards, went off the ramp then pushed me up against the garage wall and its pushing me down, managed to keep it up and pulled the hell out of my hernia getting it back up, didn't drop the bike but in the process the 3week old Samsung phone was on top of my pannier box out the way (or so I thought ) went for a tumble, smashed and damaged phone and damaged my pannier which is also brand new with a great big set of scratches on it, managed to keep the bike up though and hopefully the insurance will sort my new phone out

Ouch - done my calf also playing squash! (Hazardous game!) let the recovery take its time and don't stress it again too soon as it will feel good but you will end up back where you started. Get physio.
When I have to use the centre stand and have luggage on I put the suspension (ESA) into off-road mode and it is a doddle.

I was taking the bike off its centre stand the other day whilst just wearing shorts and flip-flops. As I pushed it off the stand my foot slipped and my leg got trapped by the centre stand and the bike. Scraped and bruised my shin but the problem was I couldn't get my leg out or get the side stand down!

Took a while to wiggle myself free.
Exactly the same thing happened to a bloke at work when he test rode a GS!

Not sure if its just me, but it does seem more of an effort to get the wc bike on the centre stand, than me 09 gsa:blast

(speedy recovery by the way)

I agree with this, it's not such a well balanced bike as previous models. By comparison my old 1150 is a breeze. The addition of the very expensive Wunderlich lifting handle for my LC has helped though.

I shredded and snapped my archilis tendon (not putting the bike on the stand), which makes me overly cautious which doesn't help.

Now if this was a post about hill start assist you lot would be getting a lot of flack about basic technique etc.!

Wish there was an easy way to shorten centre stand whilst keeping rear wheel jell just clear. Would make getting bike on that much easier.

I had an instance, in soft shoes, where I got bike on stand with a struggle but caught my foot under the small lever you stand on to raise bike. Very painful, bruised and a near broken toe!

Good precaution always to leave side stand deployed...

Did mine when my KTM 640 cough stalled at the lip of my garage. tried to push it the last bit whilst still sat on the seat so on tiptoe, and bang! Yes, I thought I had been shot too, luckily the handlebars were inside the garage so the wall caught the bike, and my son came home 5 minutes later!
Hope it heals well.

Used my new MAT turntable for the first time yesterday, makes using the centre stand double hard. I'll be careful in the future

The GSA is a heavy bike to lug onto the centre stand. One of the reasons I'm going back to a GS, as it's only a matter of time, with my back. If Mrs Nutty is in the garden, I just get her to do it anyway!:D
