Collected my brand new '11 model R1200 GSA from Park Lane this morning. Shame it was raining. It would have been nice to have it looking shiny for at least a day! Traded in my '08 R1200 GS. Clicked all the toys (Premium, Dynamic, Top Box etc).

Spent the rest of the day fitting Sat Nav (BMW Nav IV - lots of small fiddly bolts and washers!), Mudsling front and rear and a few other bits. The front Mudsling wasn't cheap, but was simple to fit, won't leave marks, and looks surprisingly integrated.

Out for a proper ride tomorrow to get those 600 miles under 4k revs under my belt. First impressions are fantastic. Much smoother gear change. Much throatier exhaust note. Can't notice that it feels heavier or less agile, but certainly more imposing on the road. Oh, and the new horn sounds far less like a toy car than the old one!

Didn't want to join the 30th Anniversary band wagon. They are really nice, but 3 years down the line I am not so sure they will date as well. No offense to anybody who has one as they do look lovely.

Fair point on the tax disc. The dealer put it there, and in one of those tamper proof holders so it's hard to move. I will transfer my private plate on it when the paperwork's done so that will mean a new disc and a new position. Any suggestions (keep it clean!)? I used to have my GS disc mounted on one of the cylinder cover bolts, but I tried to fit that holder to the new GSA and it wouldn't fit because of the shape of the protectors.

The other disc is my residents parking, so no choice but to mount it on the front windshield.

Fortunately they are both obscured from my view by the sat nav.

There is a load of room to fit the tax-disc holder to the exhaust mounting bolt. I would also consider taking your shiny new toy along to the appropriately named Shiny Bike Syndrome in Newbury (linky here) and get it properly treated with ACF50 before the winter crap does it's worst .

Great bike and proper choice of colour.............:thumb.

Thanks for the tip. I have been in touch with Nigel already to have it ACF50'd properly, but until I had the bike I couldn't book a slot (it has been 5 weeks since I ordered it). I can only do weekends and he is pretty booked up in advance.

nice bike bro
could u tell me where did u get front and rear mud sling?

Nice looking bike. Do you have any more pics on the rear Mud Sling? I can see how that might be useful.

Cheers

Mark

Great looking bike. I went for same expensive plastic mouldings and BMW Navigation. I chose to let the dealer fit the Nav unit though as I struggle with fiddely nuts and bolts and didn't want it to spoil my day.

I agree with 'Oldrascal' that ACF50 is important for winter and I'll probably let the dealer do that as well. Locally, it's about £40 on top of the first service cost which isn't too bad.

Hey seawolf

Did you get the acf50 done locally or pop up to newbury? I am after the service at the moment and wondered if there was anything more local than newbury? (I'm just outside of Chippenham).

Nice bike! :thumb2 Gonna get knocked over if you keep parking like that though! :augie

I haven't had it done yet as I plan to do it when the bike has its 600 mile service. If you just want ACF50 applied, Riders Bristol advertise it for £49.99.

Whats with the tax disc

Whats wrong with putting the tax disc on the screen? Its not like you get down on the tank and look through it. Mine was on the exhaust hanger and looked stupid so i put it on the screen low down and i'm happy with it.

Each to thier own i suppose, If it has a screen i put it on the screen. Where do you have your car one.............. on the petrol flap

Nice bike Solarider, same as mine. one tip you best read the manual for running it in, its not like the older GS, you have to thrash it, lots of posts on here about it :thumb2
