My headlight's gone out

I've got a track day this Wednesday so I checked I could turn the headlights off using the well known "press RH indicator button for 5 secs, press cancel button for 5 secs" trick. It worked and the headlights went off

Turn the engine off and restart expecting the lights to come on again and - nothing, no headlights, just a lampf warning

I've tried restarting the bike several times but the same result. This might be good for the track day but getting there in the dark won't be fun

Anyone else encountered this? Anyone found a way round to get the lights on again?

Lampf might be a blown bulb or loose connection, but it does seem a bit too much of a coincidence!

Start with the obvious stuff and work backwards from there

when it's light I'll do that but while it's dark I thought I'd ask the combined intelligence on here

besides, BOTH bulbs blowing at once, very coincidental?

Not necessarily; it's quite common for the filaments of incandescant bulbs to fail when they're turned off. Having said that, it is odd that the main beam should fail simultaneously.

well I checked the bulbs this morning and both looked perfectly OK. Still no light from them though. Ended up buying two new bulbs and both worked immediately. Now I'm left with two perfectly good looking bulbs that apparently don't work and I'm wondering if this'll happen again if I try to turn the lights off again

Turn ignition on, hold right indicator for 12 seconds, release, turn ignition off.

Check the earthing of the light unit..you may have disturbed it enough to make a connection when you put the new bulbs in.....

Check the old bulbs with a resistance meter. ometimes they can look good but still be blown.

Just got over 2 LAMPF errors - both occasions the bulb was blown. Low Beam bulbs.

For me, the lamp unit had to be replaced at BMW on Saturday - it was due to the lower section of the bulb retainer - apparently, they split and break up due to heat / vibration. They look a bit "plasticcy" - check your retaining section and clip are complete and nothing has broken away.
