Right, I've decided to celebrate my becoming a member instead of a noob (+15 posts!) by indulging myself in a thread.

I've been riding again for a bit over 2 years, and I've covered 60k plus miles, commuting, touring, messing about and generally using a bike as transport.

I've had a Fazer, sportsbikes, and an 1150 Rockster (lovely) and now I'm on an F800GS.

Point of all this is that I think I have finally got my gear sorted, after much expensive and frustrating trial, error, and impromptu destruct testing....

Gaerne Explorer boots
Rukka Armax suit
Dainese S.P.A. gloves (below 10c)
Rukka Raptor gloves (10c plus)
Uvex Carbon Enduro lid
Berghaus Primaloft under jacket (below 10c)
Summer Buff (Armax jkt has built in rain collar)
Saloman snowboarding socks (TK Maxx find).

I find this combo keeps me warm, dry and comfortable for the winter, and I ride in all weathers (because I'm stupid).

One off in that time, Gaerne boots and Rukka Raptor gloves virtually unmarked and still in use. Honorable mention to the HG suit that was replaced by the Rukka- it is scuffed but still waterproof.
BTW, the off was at around 40, and I broke my collar bone, so the kit did well.

Right, over to you lot- whatcha got, and why?

Nah....forums have had their day. People don't need them any more. So long as we all stay in our own little bubble everything will be fine......:rob

I'm honestly surprised that your thread generated such a response as many members are normally keen to share their experiences of various brands. :nenau Just see how many threads have the work Rukka in them ! :D

I was interested in what you've discovered as I too have learnt through expensive experience and am still building up a new kit as I write.

I've gone for the Rukka Marco (mainly because of my Budget);

BMW Savanna boots that are no longer waterproof but are tough and have now covered about 60,000 miles. (I have a dis-coloured Rallye II suit for Summer.)

I'm currently looking at gloves and am interested in Held's Freezer Winter gloves as my Gerbing heated gloves got a bit wet and have shrunk too much.....and..

....a Gerbing heated jacket for when it is just too cold not to.

An Arai Tour-X. I'm on my second one now.

Well on a perosnal note its a shite thread becauae its made me google a few items you mentioned that i didnt realise I needed until you got me looking at them.

My 4 fave bits of kit are;

1) My 7 yr old Rukka Jacket
2) My BMW Comfortshell Jackt which has really replaced the above
3) My 'Stich Roadcrafter trousers.
4) Alpinestar Goretex Touring boot

The comfortshell is really a 3 season jacket but used in conjunction with a Widder vest its good all year around. I do like my Tour X too.:thumb

My bits of kit

first fave - Urban Tocano muffs, singularly THEEEE best investment ever. Summer gloves all winter, heated grips on = toasty roasty, but not only my hands are warm I feel warmer generally all over. I suppose the heat isn't getting drained out through my hands.

Alpinestars boots - Goretex. So warm and completley waterproof, my feet have never even got damp or cold on the coldest days even in thin socks.

BMW Phase Change Suit and Icebreaker Merino wool thermals. Great combo, both very thin layers, with both on I'm warm and comfortable down to about 1 degree celcius yet only wearing two layers. And thats with my non windproof crappy Akito Jacket.

Shark Rsf2i lid. For some reason I just love it, fits right. This year I wanted a white lid for winter visibility, I couldn't find anything as comfortable so I got the old Shark resprayed white. I tried on other helmets the Tour x seemed draughty and cold for winter riding. Shoei felt like it only came half way down my head.

And the new fave.....The Rukka Athos Jacket and Unit trousers. Being delivered this week, I cannot F****NG wait. My old Akito kit has had it, not that it was up to much anyway. I imagine I will be much warmer and drier in the Rukka kit.

BUT OF COURSE MY COMPLETE FAVE BIT OF KIT......

My burrrtiful GS 1150 ADV..........

Yay! Thats a bit more like it, just a moderately interesting way of killing a few minutes.

Sorry if I've caused anyone to google things they didn't know they could live without, I do that all the time!

Got down to 0c on me way in this morning, and I cant help thinking that if the stoopid BMW handguards were just a bit bigger/higher I wouldn't have chilly hands. And Yes, the big blue has already relieved me of 25 quid for the "spoilers" :mmmm

Mind you, I was trying my old Alpinestars Jet-roads for old times sake, so that might have done it.

Well here it go’s, this is my current all year round kit “I find this little lot works for me”, to scared to price this lot up.

Helmet:
Arai RX7 GP - certainly not the warmest or quietest helmet but I just love it “I also ride with earplugs so this is a mute point really”. In my opinion this helmet is the rolls royce of helmets, the finish of the interior and exterior are top notch and what can I say about the pin lock ready visor “riding nirvana”

Suit:
Hein Gericke Master 5 Gore-Tex - one word perfection

Glove:
Alpinestar 365 goretex glove – I find this glove is perfect for my needs, I don’t like really heavy weight gloves where you can’t feel what you are doing with the controls, but I still need a all year round glove that is fully waterproof and warm(ish).

Armour:
Forcefield Pro L2 Back Protector – this is about as good as it gets in my opinion, not to heavy and restrictive and at a reasonable price.

Boots:
Alpinestar SMX R Gore-Tex Boot – had these about 2 ½ years now and they still look like new with a bit of elbow grease.

Backpack:
Kriega R35 + US Liner – had this about 3 trouble free years, perfect for lugging you bit and bobs around with you on your adventures.

Base layers/Mid layers/Thermal/Windproof:
Edz Tops, Bottoms, Jacket, Glove Liner, Helmet Liner, Neck Warmers, Socks – same as the suit perfect, and at a very cometative price.

Jacket:
Patagonia R1 Hoody – pefect for pottering about town in winter without your head turing into a giant ice cube.
 
Hi Argee, thanks for sharing. Be doing a little homage to my own blinged F8GS, but more importantly your stuff is about comfort & quality. Good on you it's nice to find out what other people are buying. :clap
