To be fair, I'd have though the broken part would be replaced under BMWs warranty scheme.

Indeed, having located my lighting and fuse-blowing problem to a loom fault (not on a dealer's time or charge!) my dealer has confirmed the problem and has appraoched BMW for a goodwill repair, on the basis that it's not reasonable for the loom to break on a 30 month old bike.

They're sure it will be approved and will cover the cost of both labour and parts.

Glad we're not working for you then.......... :thumb

What else do you expect fuel tank breather pipes to smell of then ?

What did you think they were???

If they were fuel tank delivery pipes, the petrol would be pissing all over your boots and obviously far more of a safety issue

Get a grip..........but makes a great 1st post :clap

Come off it man. It may be obvious to you and many others that they are breather pipes. But if all you do is ride (with the basic checks of course), and leave the rest to the dealer, and have no interest in or time for mechanics, how the hell are you supposed to know what the pipes are? Do you really think its reasonable to a repaired bike to be retuned in that state? Perhaps you need to get a grip.

I bet you do a lot of complaining and writing letters to companies.

You should have at least given them a chance to explain what the pipes were. To post that they are "Muppets" within an hour of getting the bike back seems a bit pedantic to me.

It takes all sorts as they say :nenau

No, I don't.

Do you think it's reasonable to slag someone all over the internet for a very minor oversight that wouold actually cause no problems, reporting it as being 'dangerous' and not even asking the dealer in question what they were before doing so??

Just wondering ;)

I've read some suggestions that one of outcomes of the Long Way Round was that more muppets had been influenced into buying GSes to pose around that London. Could there really be some truth in that and is this one of them?

Conclusion:
Not a serious issue with Bike.
Battersea didn't check it properly before giving back.

customer not technical god so not aware not a serious issue, so customer not happy.

Customer needs to talk to dealer more and get a better understanding of bike
Dealer needs to check bikes better before handing them over.

Here endeth :thumb

Full Tank of Fuel+ bike on sidestand = fuel overflow+smell of fuel

Complain heavily+ slag off on internet = MUPPET

Basic safety checks and minor maintainence, are an absolute requirement, for any vehicle no matter what the mode of transport. :nono

Given the potential risk to oneself if anything goes wrong or breaks while you are riding your motorcycle, don't you think that you should perhaps spend a little more time getting to understand what things do and how things work?

After all, if something breaks on your car then you mostly sit in it at the side of the road waiting for the tow truck. If something breaks on your bike then you might be getting to know the road on a more intimate basis and waiting for a rather different kind of transport!

Quick question in regards to these breather pipes, should you get stong smells of petrol? other than the "normal on side stand full of petrol"

I think the fact that the mechanics had just changed the fuel pump for a new one would explain the stronger smell of fuel than normal.

Nice picture of some breather pipes, however, filling your tank with petrol is more hazardous than riding your bike in this condtion.

Your attack on these guys seems to be backfiring and reminds of that saying, “remember, when you’re pointing a finger, there is always 3 more pointing back”

Get real and how about a public apology, after all, your quick enough to publicly slag them off without real cause.

You could see where this post was going after the first few threads.

You should've done your apprenticeship on an Airhead GS.........before they let you loose on a 1200GS :D

More importantly - why should a fuel pump corrode at all?

This was quite a common problem on the early 1200s and was the subject of a recall for a different seal to be fitted. Maybe the bike had not been in for the recall or it may be that the corrosion had already started. Should have the new seal now anyway.

PS Sorry about the duplicate posting. Hadn't spotted this was the "main" thread when posting to the other (if that makes sense).

They haven't got a monopoly in the London area.....South London Motorcycles, Prestige and Vines just outside.

If you're not happy, take your business elsewhere. I've been fck'd around by SLM, so don't go back there. Prestige are always too busy, so I go to Vines. Bit out of my way, but they've always done alright by me.

So if you're not happy.....fek off :D
