After all, if something breaks on your car then you mostly sit in it at the side of the road waiting for the tow truck. If something breaks on your bike then you might be getting to know the road on a more intimate basis and waiting for a rather different kind of transport!
Not sure where you draw the line here. So many electrics on the bike, so much to go wrong. Even the contracted recovery agents for BMW aren't allowed to do much fault finding / fixing anymore, unless they are older models. So where does that leave average Joe? I'll bet even the hard core enthusiast on a daily commute won't be able to do much by the side of the road - chances are you wont be carrying many tools or spares with you...
