Given the potential risk to oneself if anything goes wrong or breaks while you are riding your motorcycle, don't you think that you should perhaps spend a little more time getting to understand what things do and how things work?

After all, if something breaks on your car then you mostly sit in it at the side of the road waiting for the tow truck. If something breaks on your bike then you might be getting to know the road on a more intimate basis and waiting for a rather different kind of transport!

Not sure where you draw the line here. So many electrics on the bike, so much to go wrong. Even the contracted recovery agents for BMW aren't allowed to do much fault finding / fixing anymore, unless they are older models. So where does that leave average Joe? I'll bet even the hard core enthusiast on a daily commute won't be able to do much by the side of the road - chances are you wont be carrying many tools or spares with you...

They haven't got a monopoly in the London area.....South London Motorcycles, Prestige and Vines just outside.

To clarify - they have monopoly for central london. If you live and work central, the other dealers you mention are way far out. I gather there used to be a few Motorad dealers in central london, but they have all dropped bikes...except Park Lane/Battersea which I gather is owned by BMW UK.

Battersea BWM

I cant comment on their servicing on bikes, as I've only had my 12 for 1100miles, and had first sevice at SLM (where I bought the bike from)...but...
I did buy some second hand panniers, and took the barrels into Battersea to be coded to my ignition key. This was done quickly, and efficiently and FREE !!!!...n they didnt ask if I bought them from battersea.
...Now I just hope my 12 is an relieable as the R100GS airhead I had years ago (46,000 miles, and no problems, apart from whe I flattened the battery by leaving the ignition on for 8 hours whilst I was at work!.... yeah I know.....TOSSER!!)

Keep the shiny side up folks

....all within easy reach of the GS'er. Bexleyheath - 15 miles??

If you're not happy, take your business elsewhere. I've been fck'd around by SLM, so don't go back there. Prestige are always too busy, so I go to Vines. Bit out of my way, but they've always done alright by me.

So if you're not happy.....fek off :D

I've had a very similar experience Monkey....

Prestige or Vines - I'd be surprised to hear of problems from either. From SW London, Prestige is 45mins, Vines 25-30. Plenty of good choice!

oh, just remembered.

Battersea took all the extras off my old bike and fitted them onto the new one at no cost.

Good effort for a central london garage.
Positive points require publicity too

I'm not suggesting that you should be able to carry out all manner of repairs, just simply that you should put in the effort to get to know your machine and to understand what might constitute a danger, or, what isn't going to be a problem (like mis-routed breather pipes)

Have you checked your fork stanchion pinch bolts, or checked for play in the rear wheel recently ;)

Caps........

err no....what the frig is all that about. Is that mentioned in the owners handbook? Nope. If its not in there, then it doesnt need worrying about on the basis that it is serviced according to the manufacturers recommendations...and that has to be over the top for legal reasons...

Freelance...I've got a brand new 1200 adv sitting outside that I won in a draw from the last show......If you want it it's yours, just send me a cheque for, what shall we say, 7k and I'll have my people deliver it tommorrow.

I've also got a couple of winning lottery tickets that I don't want to cash in 'cos frankly that sort of money is obscene...yours for only 25k each, send cash and I'll post them to you.

Seriously though, wise up man, or are you on a wind up???

No wind up. But clearly Capsize and Fanum are. Why the frig would you want to be bothered checking stuff that isnt mandated? Havent you got better things to do? Its a bike - a workhorse - a tool. Not a toy or a woman. Wise up dudes.

I know quite a few women that look like horses :D

When all said and done - although not dangerous, this sort of lack of attention to detail and care does indicate a general sloppiness - I would certainly have pointed it out to the dealer and have expected them to immediately correct the problem and apologise without quibbling.

Is that unreasonable?

For me, this is the best one of the lot.... Winning a legal action for negligence, after you're dead is a bit of pyrrhic victory is it not?

I'm now inclined to believe that freelance is an alias on a wind-up mission. Nobody is really this naïve, are they? Yes, ok, we all know they are but....

Agreed......
Bizarre troll though

Studied the picture for quite a while & other than the breather pipes need tucking away, I can't see anything dangerous.

Am I missing something ??

Some of you guys are so easy to wind up.

How the "f" does "Have you checked your fork stanchion pinch bolts, or checked for play in the rear wheel recently" equate to being dead. It aint day to day maintenance. It aint monthly mantenance. If you have your bike serviced according to manufacturers schedules, you just dont need to worry about this kind of crap.

End of story.

Wise up. And stop rising to the bait.

So far, this is highly amusing for me and my mates on the beers winding you some of you lot up who seem to take to your bikes like they are women. Or perhaps your sisters.

Get real!

If this were for real, it would now be easy to write it off as a classic case of unconscious incompetence and a huge overdose of misplaced confidence. It must be a wind up.....
