My new 1600 GT

Hi all,

Just thought I would let you know a little about my new bike!

If you haven't ridden one, I suggest you just go and have a ride on one, just to see how nice that 6 cylinder engine is.

After my 800 Triumph, which I must admit I have no complaints about if I was riding solo and it had a shaft drive I would have probably kept the Triumph, the 1600 is like the two 800's put together.

It also keeps my wife happy on the back, but you have to keep your eye on your speedo!

Everything the Goldwing has and it just handles like a dream.

I had a 1200RT previously and although it does everything it says 'on the can' I just find it slightly boring to ride, whereas the 1600 although probably not much difference in output, it just feels a totally different bike.

All in all, I am very happy with the bike and attach some pictures for you to see.

They are not the best pics - will get some better ones when the sun comes out!

I rode the NOG demo last year and was very impressed especially as I'd ridden up there on my R1200RT

My only criticism would be that for me the fairing could do with being a tad wider along the lines of the RT that and the fact that I like to see a black engine .......................... I see you've picked the best colour

Yes i would probably like a tad bigger screen but I do find that the colour and the Xenon lights do make people pull over for you!
I also think it maybe a bit expensive on rear tyres and I would like to add some Akrapovic exhausts but I have been quoted £1800 so it will have to wait.

12000 miles in on mine.

It eats front and rear tyres, both wearing out simultaneously. That is following 'spirited' riding around the D and N roads of France, with very little motorway use. I went through two sets within 11,000 miles = 5,500 a set.

The screen, for me at six foot, is fine.

The UBS connection to the iPod keeps malfunctioning (don't really care)

The auxiliary power point on the offside fairing is in a ludicrous place. Why BMW couldn't put it on the nearside is a mystery. I have bought a spare socket to do just that.

It has a further aux socket (not mentioned in the handbook, that I could see) on the offside, by the bottom of the battery box.

If you have the radio, there is zippo room under the seat (don't really care)

The nearside glove box storage thingy is very useful.

Seat good for 400 mile days.

Goes like the clappers and you can hurl it about. You'll know when the tyre is shot as it slides and won't hold a line.

It pulls to the left, all the time.

It sups a bit of oil.

It goes like the clappers (in case you missed that).

Akro can is not needed.

Bloody marvellous.....

I couldn't answer about the lights as I haven't been out in the dark yet but cant wait to try it out.

That's because you've got the wires crossed over.
Try it as a USB instead !!

They do make a difference - the headlight doesn't so much look round the corner as stay horizontal rather than lean with the bike. The effect is that the lower inside bit of the bend - the important bit - stays illuminated.

8500 miles so far and loving it. 3x 400 mile days to come riding down to Rome - bring it on!

I only found mine the other day after 10 months whilst cleaning the bike!

I had a socket fitted direct to the battery for Optimate and Aerostich heated jacket.

lovely to ride even for a short person. Great engine power. Drinks oil (although solved by BMW with a longer dip stick )

annoyed vines didn't stop me buying the ipod lead knowing that the ipod connection is shit (faulty). Now just use a cheap USB stick with MP3s, works fine.

Speakers for stereo good for up to 70MPH even with ear plugs. Bluetooth via System 6 on the other hand is very low volume.

Only 2 choice of "official" tyres and bridgestones are out of stock at the moment.

Heated grips heat up to different temperature

High depreciation so buy second hand (even then it still drops like a lead balloon). Currently you can get one for £13k for a less than year old bike.

White ones are faster than the red ones

rear light unit on mine has already failed but new one put in on warranty

So it works sort of like the gyrocam they use in moto gp, good safety feature they should stick on all bikes in the future.

I found mine after about 11 months...

When I dropped something in the garage. Bent down to pick it up, saw the socket.... "That's odd...." I thought.

It will be useful for a switched power supply to piggy-back off, as I really cannot see any other use for it.
