My trusty Quest recently died and I got myself a 2610 to replace it.

Unregistered by the previous owner and re-registered onto my Garmin a/c.

The first time I used it on the PC it would not 'see' it..............after lots of pissing about it eventually did but can't remember what I did to fix it :blast

Same problem yesterday..............turning the unit on and off and it worked

Just now been trying for ages with no joy :( tried downloading drivers but the 'puter keeps saying they have not installed successfully (Windows 7)...............not sure if that's related

Help!

re-install the USB drivers from C:\Garmin\USB_Drivers normally does the trick.

re-install the USB drivers from C:\Garmin\USB_Drivers normally does the trick.

That's what I tried :(

Downloaded ok but for some reason, when I try to install, I eventually get a message saying the install was unsuccessful

Still not sure why it has, occasionally, connected but mostly not

Another trick is to change the usb port. Sometimes works from one and not another.

Tried that but it didn't work :(

However, did a quick 'google' and found a few comments about Garmin drivers conflicting with Windows 7 so, uninstalled, rebooted and....................it works :)

Given the so far intermittent nature of the problem I'm not getting tooooo excited so will try again tomorrow and post back if that's the underlying problem.

Cheers for the ideas Monkeyboy :thumb2

All still seems fine, so, looks like Windows 7 and Garmin's 2610 drivers don't get on...............well I hope that's what it was :)

Now I'm no computer whizz, but have recently purchased a new computer which I'm told runs on windows 7.
To enable the computer to recognise mapsource I have to open all programmes,go to Garmin then right click on Garmin, lots of instructions come up one of which is "Run as administrator" I click on this and it opens up mapsource.
This most probably has no relation to your problem but may be worth a try.

Hi Andres,
I've just reread your post and your problem sounds the same as mine was.
I've just opened mapsource so I can convey the correct route to enable mapsource to open on windows 7.
These instructions are from Garmins technical help desk.

Left click on "All programmes"

Left click on "Garmin"

Right click on" Mapsource"

Left click on "Run as administrator"

It will then ask...Do you wish to allow the folllowing programme from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer.

Left click on yes and it opens Mapsource.

Hope this helps,

Steve
