My two week 5 country Euro trip 2024

St maxime day 2 , comments about the veg are true eating a bit of fruit with brekkie and telling myself its healthy! , felt like i needed to do some exercise hired a pedal bike for 15 euros cycled to st tropez about 40km there and back very flat so easy to do.

Nice light lunch in st tropez, the place seems full of poseurs as expected but interesting visit all the same. Spotted uk reg no 1V

Thanks for the comments, i dont know how to link on google maps but will try later when back home maybe add it to the end.

don't worry about it. We are grateful you are making these posts for our benefit. It's not exactly hard for readers to google the hotels themselves from the pictures or description you have given. You write in your own style not what some self appointed critic demands!

Not one for back to front baseball caps but it stops the wind blowing it away on a pedal cycle. St tropez over the bay in the background. Ice cream reward on return to saint maxime after cycle. One of the nicest pizzas ive ever had for tea later in st maxime, a pizza is a pizza but it really was good, busy street back from the front, pizza 22 euros. Waiter wouldnt let me leave a tip on a credit card so no tip it was. Chatted to a couple from Dallas on next table the guy had emigrated from coventry to dallas 40 years ago. Leeds united fan, they get everywhere! Breakfast pretty average at le petit prince as 14 euros and a bit limited on choice. Underground Parking ‘free’ howeverIMG_6943.jpegIMG_6944.jpegIMG_6945.jpegIMG_6947.jpegIMG_6949.jpegIMG_6951.jpeg

Day 7, destination Lucca Italy. A day of autoroutes/ autostrada as 450kms. Cost about 50 euros in tolls. Temperature 30 degrees, the heat really has caught me out on this trip.

IL Gardino Del Petriossa is where i am staying, lovely b&b host Marina, gated parking again.

Restaurant carbone for dinner in lucca, lack of veg again! Bumped into what seemed Like a bunch of football hooligans?! No brekkie option at the b&b so nipped round the corner and spent 3 euros.IMG_6974.jpegIMG_6975.jpegIMG_6972.jpegIMG_6965.jpegIMG_7008.jpegIMG_7009.jpeg

Next day, destination Lake Garda, Sirmione. On the back of this trip I am struggling to recommend italy as the routes ive taken seem full of 50km speed limits, and 30km speed limits though created environmental zones, and absolutely full of speed cameras. The roads are also not great surfaces.

Hotel Porto Azzuro , Sirmione, underground parking free. Pretty good value italian restaurant over the road. Token carrots with main course!

First pic is en route.

Day 8 , destination Innsbruck, Austria. First bad weather torrential horrendous rain for most of the day, bmw motorrad waterproof gloves gave up after about an hour. Fortunately Brought a spare pair to swap into. Daytona boots stayed strong

Plenty of bikes heading the other way towards italy / lake garda around the border.havent seen any english bikers yet.

Bought an austrian vignette online the night before peace of mind for a fiver.

Roads in austria are great.

Hotel Leipzeiger Hoff Innsbruck. Stunning hotel, more underground parking, not a cheap place but has real charm and class.

Trip mileage up to about 1500 miles now. Bike is averaging about 58mpgIMG_7045.jpegIMG_7044.jpegIMG_7050.jpegIMG_7054.jpegIMG_7053.jpegIMG_7052.jpegIMG_7058.jpeg

Quality brekkie with smoked salmon, later 11am checkout and shorter mileage day, so did the cable car thingy for about 40 euros which was a good experience and very efficient once i found the main station where you get on a short dedicated train/tram to the cable car station.

Todays destination was Friedrichshafen Germany. Ibis Styles Hotel, nice place and free buses into town. roads from Innsbruck s189/179? fantastic but huge traffic today more so the other direction to mine, not surprisingly gridlock through the austrian/ german border not sure if a bank holiday or weekend thing, border control was slowing cars down to crawl pace. Never seen so many bikers must have seen a few hundred bikes on the roads today.

Saw a thermal airship?photo 1, strange sight when not used to them. Huge.

Found a steak/burger place for tea in the town, steaks on the pricey side 40 euros for 300g so went burger.
Curve ball when they gave me a pepper mill with habanero chillis in it, and didnt mention, and i didnt twig in my tired state, nearly choked on my mushroom soup.:DD

Heading north now 3 more nights to go, up through germany (2 further stop offs baden baden and cochem) and a final night in Ghent before returning home Tuesday.

That’s the Goodyear ‘blimp’, a regular sight at Le Mans for the 24 hour car race.

I have stood next to it, before Goodyear took it over, at Cardington airship sheds. Sadly though, I didn’t get a ride in it.

Heat/comfortable riding heat has been a problem on this trip, might have been Richardbd above who suggested the Klim Marakesh jacket when i was asking about klim gear recently. It is getting slightly cooler now though high 20’s and the roads are great.

It seems the B500 is full of low speed limits 30/50/70 kph but fun can be had elsewhere in the area.

Baden Baden region tonight and a very epic place to stay albeit nothing else there, Hotel Rebenhof. Everything is over engineered even the toilet doors! IMG_7144.jpegIMG_7158.jpegIMG_7161.jpegIMG_7164.jpegIMG_7165.jpegIMG_7160.jpegIMG_7166.jpeg

Rebenhof, highly recommended, is not in baden baden just a small nearby village in the region. The beef soup had sliced savory pancake/crepe in it, was good. Veal main course. just shy of 2000 miles now, at an average for the trip of 60.1 mpg. Am ready for home and a detox !
