Just had a fantastic weekend in Scotland with my brother and some mates.
Ed (bro) riding old TDM 850, mate John on his 1200GS, Nick - Aprilia Shiver, Dean - Blackbird, Mickey - Triumph Sprint 900 (I think) and myself on my 1150GS with a suspected coilpack fault and a bloody noisy cam chain tensioner (at low revs).
Anyway, left Lincoln at 06:45 on Friday morning and headed up A1 to Quernhow truckers cafe for a greasy brekkie - very nice - thanks for the recommendations. Then took A68 thru County Durham, then picked up A7 at Hawick and kept heading north to get on the A84 and passed thru Callander for a stop at the Green Wellie at Tyndrum. Next came the spectacular A82 across Rannoch Moor and into Glencoe before arriving in Fort William at about 18:30. Quick shower was had before hitting the bar for a few well earned bevvies. What a great day!
After a good breakfast on Saturday morning we headed north up the A82 to the Kyle of Localsh. What an incredible road!!! We experienced mile after mile of the most scenic countryside coupled with fast sweeping roads, it really was riding nirvana!
We headed onto Skye, had a coffee and then headed back across the bridge and up to Applecross. The single track road with first gear switchback hairpins was really awesome fun. We then rode round the headland up to Fearnmore whilst being constantly amazed by the scenery, and the four blokes on Honda C90's coming the other way. Time was getting on so we really cracked on down to Inverness then along Loch Ness and back to the hotel in Fort William for a few more refreshing beverages.
Sunday was unfortunately the day to head south, so we left early and headed for Glasgow and the M74 towards Carlisle. Then cut across country the Brampton, Alston, Middleton in Teesdale, Brough (inadvertant navigational error), Scotch Corner and home.
No bike dramas to report, some sore arses, tired minds and a real sense of achievement. It was the first time in the Scottish Highlands and the first decent trip for most of us and was massively enjoyed by all. Can highly recommend it to anyone who has not been, and the many who have will appreciate how much we enjoyed it.
Saw loads of other GSER's out and about so Hello to anyone if our paths crossed.
