For various indulgent reasons I changed my MY13 GS TE for a MY15 GS TE. The 15 bike has many modification ranging from engine casing , clutch, screen mounting points to a revised ECU......AND MANY MORE.......including hot heated grips.

The result is ....... a tighter bike that seems to need a good few miles before it spins like the old one which had done 17,000 long distance touring miles. The clutch and gear change are vastly better in that it is predictable, easy and light to operate ( both clutch and lever).

The ECU supports a quickshifter which is fun AND KINDA LIKEABLE. You get a new SATNAV 5 which seems better than the original 5 but I can't swear to that.

DOWNSIDES. The paint finish seems poor, almost sloppy with excess application, the oh so useful third trip meter that zero's overnight is gone, probably to Triumph. Everything else is OK.

So if you are thinking of changing......its a complete indulgence cash wise.

If you've got the TE it should have the Pro On Board Computer, so according to page 50 in the manual, the TRIP A option should be available for use, maybe it's just not enabled on your dash, following the instructions in the manual should allow you to enable that function so you can see it.

Erm....there is NEW BMW Navigator V and OLD one? Erm.. I don't think so...

I can only comment on my experience. I purchased a Nav5 on release ,a couple of years back , and then the latest Nav supplied with my MY 15 bike. The software has more features including a screen button to ignore a missed waypoint thus stopping the continual reroute to the missed waypoint. Additionally it seems quicker to refresh the screen.

Some screen options seem to be missing on the latest N5 but they may be buried in the menu system!

That's helpful, thanks.

Another 200 miles today........the ESA in road mode is a much harder ride than my MY13 bike........or does it soften with miles?

I think you referring to Navigator IV, as Navigator V hasn't changed since release in 2013.

I'm talking Nav 5 , we covered 30,000 mile together and got to know each other very well..... It's now on v3 software and that's very different from v1.

So , by my definition, the Nav 5 has gone thru' significant change. But I'm not sure about firmware.

right. My Navigator V was on version 2.x when I bought my GS i January 2014. I am currently on v3.0. Even device that you bought back then can be brought forward to v3.0.

No you've got it spot on. Plenty of other threads on here noticing how the suspension seems harder from 2014 onwards. I much prefer it personally.

I'm glad I'm not the only one to struggle with Roman numerals!:P

Glad to hear that you find the ride a tad hard.....thought it was me.

Much firmer that the 13 bike however a bit too hard me thinks!

The difference in ride is marked to the point where the rear shock can be harsh. I will be going on a trip to Scicily later this month with the wife on the back and 32 pairs of shoes in the panniers. The bike may be up for sale in May if the ride idoes not soften with miles.

Just traded my '13 for a new '15. I've only done 250mls. At first I thought ride was firmer than the '13. But now it is definetely more supple. I put this down to a ride along a road on the top of the N York Moors which really makes the suspension work, especially if you can ride at about 50mph.. Fascinating to look down at the the top of the forks and see hard hard they are working. So give the road between Rosedale and Egton Bridge a try - or almost any road on the N York Moors.

Sounds like a road I take up to Gaucin to pick up the road to Ronda, it's like being off road without being off road , if you know what I mean.:(

So roundincircles, does that mean you've a Nav V for sale, just that I'm thinking of upgrading from a Zumo 660..:)

I sold it for a steal......they do appear to be in demand. Sold it on this forum as ebay take 10% plus plus on shipping and paypal.
