Test rode a GS three weeks ago from a BMW dealer. Everything in order. Milage 13700. Clean, runs well. Left deposit. It's mine.
Picked up bike yesterday, everything in order. Clean, runs well. Milage 14,370. Paid balance. It's mine.
Now you normally see the milage creep up by about 20 to 30 miles in these intervals. One of the sales guys using it for commuting etc.. But 600 to 700 extra miles in three weeks? Not sure what to do about this. Didn't notice till I started riding home.
Really, it makes little difference but it is a bit of a piss take.
Other than phoning the dealer and putting them on the spot and asking them to account for the extra milage not much I can do really.
Any thoughts?

Jeeze, that would piss me off too. I would get on the phone and give em hell. Demand something as compensation. They were obviously using it as a demonstrator or someone was riding home with it every night. Not a nice thing to do when a customer has already paid deposit on it!

Once you had paid the deposit the bike should have been taken out of circulation... not used a demonstrator or staff commuter bike.
A complaint call as quickly as possible before they suggest you have put the addditional mileage on.

Try to get them to give you a sweetener... clothing or something in recompense.

If not, name and shame.

I would be up-set too.

I would tell the Dealer just want you said in your post. Ask him if they drove the sh*t out of bike because it was now sold?

You expected him to act in a professional way, which he did not. I would ask him is if this is typical of his business. If he cares and is sincere, he will compensate you in some way. A small jester of good faith on his part, can go a long way.

And call him as soon as you can. Talk to him in person if you can, face to face is always better.

Mystery mileage

May be nothing to do with it,but mine went up 100 mls ,following a software download at the first service, but that seems a bit much.

similar but different

Friend of mine has just bought a Triumph Tiger.

He called the local dealer about a demonstrator ride and they said come down.
When he went about 2 weeks later they said "sorry weve sold the demonstrator and don't have another at the moment - you can take out this customers new bike but don't put more than 10 miles on it !!!!!!"

Needless to say he went 50 odd miles out of his way to place the order for his new bike.

Sherps ;)

Once you paid the deposit you entered into a contract with the dealer to purchase the bike in an agreed condition. If there were no modifications to do at your behest then the bike 'as is' was under contract.
Politely explain the situation to the dealer and see what his reaction is, if it is not good point out that you would prefer it to be settled amicably but that he is in breach of contract.
