MZ Baghira Enduro

Anyone have any experience, I'm in the market for a trallie that will go on the road as well due to the possible restrictions on green lanes, and this is essentially a Yamaha XT 600 but with a 5 valve 660 cc Yamaha motor, 45mm white power front & rear shocks.

Can be had new for £3850.

The XT 600 is discontinued but MZ use the Yamaha engine & gearbox.

If anyone has one or knows someone who has I would be gratefull of any info.

Had a test ride on one and the supermoto version a while back, I think I would equate it owning a new Skoda, they are great well built and top fun and if you don't mind the image thing do it (you already presumably have a B*W so how much more of a negative image can you get).

Jim,

they were reviewed in a back issue of TBM. The Muz, a KTM and a CCM. I remember it came last, but it was the more sensible/relazed of the three and still got a good reccomendation based on the price. I was going to buy one, just couldn't find a dealer within 150 miles, so servicing/ parts/ spares worries put me off. Having said that, I have five BMW dealers within 150 miles of me, and I still have to travel further than that for a decent service.....

Gazza, yes I have been to Pleasley but they have not got the Enduro version just the street moto, I would like to see and feel the Enduro, he is a nice bloke let me have a test ride on a supermoto so I could feel what a 660 single felt like, its surprisingly nippy.

David, The MZ shares all the electrics, indicators and bars and mirrors with the F650 and some other bits are used on the F650 as well, the air filter is off a KTM, the engine is Yamaha, the Suspension white power so its a well speced bike for a reasonable price, I think Roger is right its an MZ, honest.

Mate of mine had one for a while and he thought it wuz brilliant. Well put together and with all the right bits, handled well, cheap-(ish) spares, well pleased. Perhaps a bit of 'Skoda' attitude from mates who knew no better.

My Yamaha XTZ660 uses the same engine. Its done 38k now without missing a beat. Has plenty of power for a single but as I use it only for work fuel consumption is my priority. Does around 55 miles to 4.5 litres nearly all town work. Good engine.

Mate and his missus have got one each, well pleased and no problems that they said. think they bought them from Wheels on the A5, but would have to confirm this.

I'm confident this is the one for me, there are only two issues to address
1. The std seat is 930mm but there is a height reduced 890mm version available and as of this moment I cannot find anyone who actually has the Enduro version in stock, so I have'nt been able to try one for size and its not just the seat that is changed but the suspension, side stand, rear suspension travel, Iv'e only been able to try a supermoto version with 17" wheels which may be much different to a 21" Enduro wheel.

2. I will also require some sort of windscreen which I have not yet been able to find, although I'm sure I can adapt something.

I've got more than a passing interest in these 'baggy hiras'.
The build quality is excellent, the plastics are very good. But they don't all come with White Power suspension components, some are fitted with less effective equipment, so if you order one make sure you know whats going to arrive.

The way the side stand flips all the way back and up out of the way is something the Jap big four should adopt.

The only thing that I thought a bit ropey was the rear brake lever, however if you compare this type of bike to a CCM then I'm afraid that CCM miss out on the quality stakes.

I'm seriously considering (after Africa Twin problem..see Peak) either the Tall Enduro or a Tall Supermoto.

Be warned though, when you ask for a low version it doesn't just involve suspension mods, the dealer told me that MZ use different frames and various length swing arms. You really need to try one on for size before yopu buy/order.

Thanks for the heads up, certainly the super moto versions I have seen have WP rear suspension and your'e right it is important to get the height right first time. The seat is slim and on my GS I had mine made thicker and use it on the high setting so its probably going to be OK.

The rear brake lever is short but when i rode the street version my foot just felt right, i think all the off road types are like this.
I was well impressed with the engine & gearbox it was a really smooth change.
I tried the Super Moto version and it was nice, with a 21" Enduro front wheel I think it will feel a bit more upright than the moto type, if you know of one anywhere I'd love to try one for size.

More or less yes but it is the street moto with 17" wheels, the Enduro is 21" front & 18" rear in common with most off roaders.

Its lower as well for street use.

Managed to get my leg over one today, the nice people at Pleasely Motorcycles had one in for service and the owner kindly let me try it for size and in standard trim its fine, I can get my feet down flat no problem, all I have to do now is order one.

I to, was invited to Pleasley bikes to see aforesaid Enduro, was this the one with every conceivable nav/aid/gadget known to man bolted to the front?

I managed to see the bike part way through its service and here are a few positive things that I noticed.

1 All the fastenings are stainless.
2 The rear subframe is fully detachable.
3 Everywhere I looked I could find no signs of rust or paint chipping off, this is a 7,000 mile 3 year old bike. Apparently the frames are undercoated before being top coated, nice;unlike the Japs spray it straight onto plain metal treatment.
4 The young man (18ish) working on the bike was extremely careful in all that he did.
5 How helpful the owners of this business are, nice people.
6 Its just around the corner from my place.

If it was the same bike did you notice the Carbon Can Co illegal race can on the bike......this bike is owned by a copper!

Really torn now between Streetmoto or the Enduro.

Yes that's the one I arrived at about 14:00 so must have just missed you, he had the IMO, bike to bike etc.

The can was changed for the original one for the test, the original can is all stainless and is heavy, about 30 pounds, yep it looks the business and the brake lines are stainless braided as standard as well, a well setup bike and the right price.

I took him a bottle of beer as a thankyou for letting me try his bike for size.
