Anyone done that? The only option I can see is from HeliBar at £560:eek: I found the R1250R bars excellent but apparently don't fit the GS.

Won't you end up with heavier steering? The gyroscopic effect from the 19" GS wheel has to be greater than the 17" on the R.

Can't you just hacksaw an inch off each bar end ? :augie

Silly - as they taper, the bits at the end would then be too thick for the grips, levers, etc. Best to cut two inches out of the very middle, stuff a bit of broom handle inside to brace it, then reinstall. This approach also has the benefit of not needing to remove any of the grips, missrors, levers, etc. Job done!

I believe you can fit the R bars to an RS, and think I have also read of the the GS bars being fitted to the RS. That being the case, you would think the R bars might fit the GS. However, maybe the thicker middle section on the GS is wider than on the R bars because the clamps are further apart. If so I guess that would explain it.

Incidentally that also might rule out the not entirely serious suggestion to cut a section out of the middle as it could leave the clamps trying to grip the tapering smaller diameter section of the bars.

I think you could actually take a bit off the ends because there is a bit spare before they increase in diameter, but you would need to drill new holes for the grip retaining screws.

Was a thread a while ago about a guy wanted to buy a GSA but could not get handlebars down pathway, so seems it was not found how to do it, except with some serious work

Why would you want too ? Not sure its something id do. I like the high wide bars.

I have normal human length arms, after the torn shoulder it’s a bit of an issue. The ergo on the 1250R fits me, hence trying the modification...

As good a reason as any. Im the opposite with short arms, so up n back risers were needed to help my lower back and keep the weight off my wrists.

Nice find Zoltan obviously just came on market, as still does not have the German TUV approval

Didn’t spot that, do they have to certify everything? Will find out tomorrow if it’s available.

We are not unique with this problem, Heilbar have a beautiful piece of engineering but at cost. The best ergonomics was on the RT, but the new is huge.

I am a disabled rider with only one arm having lost my right arm in a motorcycle accident over 30 years ago. I have just fitted heli bars to my 1250GS and have not had a problem so far. My previous LC had standard bars and I find the adjustment with the heli bars is a lot more comfortable.

This is easily done. My GS1250 bars have had about an inch off each end and everything fits back on fine. This means the bike can be securely stored in our back garden.

The standard bars feel better and I will be having some fitted when we eventually move house - aiming to do so this year.
