National Bikesafe Show 2008

bikesafe show

What a cracking good show, as they say.
Been up there all day, weather a bit crap but aside from that it a damn good event, lots to see and do, far more than there was at excel, a good number of traders and there were some very good prices, I don't suppose the choice was as great as at other shows but it is only a little un and its free. Police canteen doing food at well below normal event prices!!! Overall the best bike show I have been ages, well worth the visit. Give it a go on Sunday.

apart from the rain and mud which they cant do much about, if you enjoyed the show please send an email to the bikesafe team so that they can forward it on to 'the management'

today one of 'the management' visited and did not appreciate how big and useful bikesafe is.

hope you all have better weather tomorrow if you go

Just got back.

Wow what a fantastic show.. and it was FREE, also included was FREE Parking.

Good food at Cheap prices, £3.50 for a whole pizza and only a £1.00 for a bottle of water, very good prices I'm sure you will agree.

There were loads of GS's there. Maybe next time we could have a UKGSer Stand!!

I can only confirm what BOWSER has said and it was a great show with loads of bike to look at and a HUGE marquee with all the trade stands in. Plastic stuff on the floor so you didn't get too muddy. The weather was Great also.

Going again next year - -- YOU BET I'AM.

Excel = CRAP
Ally Pally = CRAP.

Just a couple of Pictures.

The groundskeeper's gonna have a fit when he sees the mess they've made :D

Keith Chapman said:
The wall of death was being built as I left work this evening, a large  to anyone who gets a GS round it :D

I claim my beer! I rode my GSA around the wall of death with no problems - you should've said ride it round the inside, now that would have been hard :D

Anybody else do any test rides? Took out an 800GS - it's my old Dakar on steriods :bounce1 me likey :thumb2

BMW guy "What bike have you got?"
Me "1150 Adv"
BMW guy "Oh, so you know how the indicators work then..."
Copper "Nice one, that's the safety briefing over with then :D"
"All gatsos are live. If you do something that could get you a ticket, you'll get a ticket, but I want to see you making progress and enjoying the bike........"

Picture the scene, an 800GS overtaking a Range Rover and watching the drivers face as a) the GS goes past despite him gunning it to block me, and then hitting the brakes as the GS is closey followed by Police Spec & Fire Brigade spec Fireblades :D

Top day out :thumb

A BRILLIANT EVENT AT HENDON, 10 TIMES BETTER THAN CHELTENHAM, THO' THAT WAS A NICE RIDE FORM HERTS.
I WOULD SUGGEST THEY USE HENDON AGAIN........:clap:clap

The Metrpolitan Police Service and particularly their Bike-Safe London Team played host to this years National Bike Safe Show at their excellent Training Centre in Hendon, North West London.

There spread over its vast acreage was what I have to say was one of the best motorcycle shows I have ever been to and all of it was free; free entry, free parking, free attractions, free demonstrators, free assessed rides, good plentiful food at excellent prices, and more police officers of all forms and functions than you could shake a stick at.

Queueing up ready to take you out for an assessed ride were what seemed like the entire Country's police motorcyclists... featuring UKGS'ers very own Bryn

Most riding fairly standard fayre

Some riding something...

...a bit...

...erm...

272507812_ayjnw-M.jpg

...different...

272501234_Pg8im-M.jpg

And the odd one or two who perhaps were a bit more discreet...

Not to be out-done by the current fleet, service vehicles of yester year were present, both two wheels...

272494821_Us5SC-M.jpg

and four...

My particular favourite of these, an armour plated Rover P6 3500 V8 as used by the Special Branch who used to serve as high security close protection for Royalty and Prime Ministerial duty, the armour plating deemed necessary to combat the terrorist threat of the time.

The jam jar of my adolescent years...

and then came the first of the video equipped cars we so know and love now...

The Met were keen to show other facets of their work and there were displays by the Dog Support Unit and the general purpose dogs

272580134_SDLBk-M.jpg

and their drug/firearms detection dogs

272562921_cNd9R-M.jpg

And a special covert dog :augie

Other units at the show were the Special Escort Group, Marine Support Unit, Air Support Unit, Mounted Branch, CO19 (Specialist Firearms Unit) and there were fly by's from the HEMS and ASU's Squirrel Helicopters.

Back on the ground there were displays from a motorcycle stunt team (which I missed) and a display by the Royal Signal's White Helmet Display Team

The only casualty of their display being this...

272471433_SUqoX-M.jpg

Lovely sounding bikes and I particularly enjoyed their salute to Ken, smack bang in the middle of his emissions zone at an event his gubbmint paid for :D

272626097_3P7TC-M.jpg

The manufacturers were there in force and demonstrators were there, some I was strangely drawn to...

Others not :augie

I see rotting 1200's are a common problem whether made in Berlin or Milwaukee :D

272449858_mnnKa-M.jpg

There was off-roading sampling (I think they'd given the groundsman the weekend off!)

272588102_4aWnb-M.jpg

And there was even an area set aside for those who had never ridden before to give it a go, even Y2Blade wasn't overlooked :D

272628556_MNnHB-M.jpg

In addition to all that there were 'celebrities'

272475534_2qBkE-M.jpg

An enormous stretch of marquee full of trade stands and clubs :augie

272495591_5pwRU-M.jpg

Sideshows of every shape and sound

272536709_sb75K-M.jpg

Even the sponsors got a look-in (posted especially for MMC :D)

272582928_rDLWf-M.jpg

There was no shortage of GS visitors

272450279_LMA54-M.jpg

And their suitably personalised bikes

272521261_JbEJg-M.jpg

All in all an excellent show, with so much going on I missed several demonstrations and talks. Definitely one for the cynics who say all shows are designed only to rip off the punter.

Well done Bikesafe London, the Met and all the County force teams who made this an excellent show :thumb

ASU's Squirrel Helicopters.

The three squirrels left the UK a couple of weeks ago after being sold earlier in the year and headed off to the south of france for their second jobs in the sun after 10+ years with the met.

They have been operating the three eurocopter EC145's for over a year now.

I went on Sunday and I agree 100% with the above. :thumb2
