I have just purchased a second hand nav 5, perfect condition,
The unit came without the BMW supplied USB cable, I've been searching for the proper one but have not found one yet,
Q, can I use the USB cable that I have for my phone, it fits into the socket on the rear unlike my zumo 550 cable which has a different plug,
I can use this same cable to charge my phone/headset/tablet etc, I have not plugged it into anything yet for fear of doing damage,
I also wonder if using this cable to connect to the computer for updates it will allow data transfer,

Failing this does anyone have a spare proper cable I could purchase :thumb2

There is also very little info in the supplied manual concerning charging voltage etc,

I use several different micro-USB to regular USB leads on my Nav V, all without a problem.

Yes, for data transfer too. BaseCamp / Mac / GPS device.

USB Cable

All of my odd cables will charge but some will not connect to the computer to allow it to recognise the Nav V as a readable drive and so will not allow me to transfer routes created on my computer ...in MapSource.

My original cable for the Nav V is only good for charging now :nenau.

I use 'any other' USB cable in the house now as (from what i have been told) there are only 4 wires within the cable - positive, negative, data up and data down... no issues at all with charging or data transfer.

Find one and fill your boots. :beerjug:

Great, thanks guys, as I have about 4 or 5 chargers and leads from mobile phone updates and from my tablets and headset I appear to have an abundance if usable leads,
Thanks for the info,
