Nav IV map updates?

My Nav IV has the option of a map update @ £49.99, or lifetime updates for a single fee of £74.99

Thats a lot of money, and i thinking I can manage without the updates, but one day I may regret it when get lost. Is it really worth doing? Are there any better alternatives available?

Bought my lifetime update off amazon at about £55 try sourcing elsewhere . You get a card with a code. Well worth it imho

It can be loaded into Basecamp and sent to your satnav.
