Ok. So I've just fitted to Nav V using 4 button cradle. Shouldn't it switch off after taking key out of ignition? I know the bike stays live electrically for a short while. I'm guessing around 30-45 seconds but even after waiting for a longer period the unit is still powered and charging and the headset still has audio/power. Cradle connected via canbus socket. Last sat nav powered off with the bike! :beerjug:

Do you still have a 660-style basic mount?

If so - plug it in with the Nav V and see if it powers off on the ignition?

Or/and - put a voltmeter across the canbus socket, and check if it is shutting down at all?

Al

Don't have a 660 mount but do have a multimeter. Assuming it's not shutting down, what is it pointing at? When the unit is not in the mount the bike is shutting down after approx 30 secs. I can't hear the the speakers in my helmet switching off. It's strange:blast

Try cleaning up the Canbus socket and the cradle's plug with some contact cleaner.

Right. I've done as Blackal and Wapping suggested. Same problem exists. I have a spare, brand new 4 button cradle also and it is doing the same. Multimeter is showing that the canbus lead on the bike side is shutting after 30 sec once key is removed and nothing is connected to it. But..... when the unit is in either cradle it is keeping the system live.

So - the cradle appears to be holding the canbus socket 'open'.

Anyone local to you have a 660 cradle or another 4-button Nav cradle you could test? That would appear to be the next step.

It appears it doing it with all cradles. I have 2, 4 button cradles that I have just tried. Both with the same result. It is definitely the cradle holding the system open. Another thing is that if I put the unit in to the cradle while it's off and the bike is off, once I turn the key it activates the unit but it just doesn't deactivate it

Mmmmm.......

Given that - I'm thinking that an anomoly in the Nav 5 is the issue.

Nip along to a Motorrad dealer and ask to try one there?

Al

Could it have anything to do with the battery in the Nav unit? I've tried but can never get it to full charge. As soon as I take it off charge and switch it on, it drops down to approx 75%

Might be - there is a fuckload of electronics in the battery.

Al

silly question but does the socket that the nav cradle connects to stay live as well if the cradle is not connected.

Have you tried cleaning all the connections, including those on the device and on the cradle yet?

UPDATE. So I found another forum, could have been an old one on here from 2014. It pointed towards an optimate being connected to the bike. Didn't think it would matter but disconnected the optimate and the Nav V powered down after 30sec :D:clap:bounce1 perseverance!

How old is the gsa mark,
On a wc gs without sat nav prep i fitted, the 4 button then locking bmw mount, no issues,
it needed coding to activate the retrofitted wonder wheel,
Some k25 used to do the same with later garmin sat navs, and run the battery flat,
Do you have the nav set to bike, auto doesnt allways register,

Ah-hah! Didn't realise that you had the optimate plugged in, before switching off ignition (a strange sequence) - but wouldn't have guessed that was the issue anyway.

On another thread - i asked if anyone had used the 4-button mount in conjunction with the thumb-wheel, and got advised not to - as it could just confuse the system.

Al

I too didn't think it mattered as I thought the optimate was only dealing with the bike battery. What made it more confusing was that when the unit wasn't in the cradle the bike would shut down after the 30 sec period, even with the optimate connected. Having the unit in the cradle stopped that so it didn't point towards the optimate! Only use the 4 button cradle and don't have a wonder wheel fitted. It's an 06 bike. Anyone doing that seems a bit belt and braces!
