Go to Zumoforums and search for 'MTP' settings or 'Mass Storage Mode'. It is simple to change and essential to view gpx files etc when gps is connected via usb.

I have a Nav 5. I use Mapsource as I prefer it. You keep Basecamp, I don't want it, or like it, or want to use it. It doesn't do,what I want...
To change your Nav 5 settings to Mass storage mode you have to access a hidden menu. My Nav 5 has just gone back to Garmin to be replaced so I have to do this from memory
Find the page with all the past info on it, max speed, average everything, time travelling, time stopped etc. I get to it by touching the 3 horizontal lines on one of the tabs on my dashboard.
YOy should get to a black and white page with loads of info on it.
NOW... press and hold the speed ummm button(?) until you get the hidden menu come up.
Scroll down to the last page, and press the MTP radio button to switch it on. It doesn't upset anything else I'm told.
Now your Nav 5 should be recognised by Map Source.

I hope my memory was good enough to get that to work.

We don't want or like Basecamp..

Bitchcamp was created simply for people who choose to use Apple Mac thingies...

It offers absolutely nothing to Mapsource users.

If you like Bitchcamp, fine.. carry on

I'll use the better Mapsource ok?

Settle down gentlemen, it's only mapping software :rob :thumb

I used to like Autoroute, does anyone remember it, bet some are still using it.

I create a lot of my routes in Mapssource then save them as a GPX file which I open in Bascamp and use that to transfer to my Nav 5.:clap

I want to use Basecamp more but as I know Mapsource well it's just easier:nenau

Yes, I do similar however, I do find that using the combination of the two is the most powerful. For example converting Tracks in to Routes in Basecamp is excellent as long as you remember to switch between Direct and Motorcycle and gradually reduce your viapoints and make them 'non-announcing'. Also I find the moving Waypoint tool better on Basecamp. I still use M/S to transfer stuff back and forth and I like to use 'save as' a gpx file directly on to the sd card as a backup on long trips even if I have imported the routes already. The really big plus for me on M/S is the file handling. You can open and save each piece of planning or route on many .gdp or .gpx files more easily than in Basecamp.

As I said above Zumoforums.com has some excellent contributors to this debate as opposed to a m/c brand oriented forum such as this one or others where you might not pick up all the expertise available.

Yes it does !

Clearly it doesn't do what HE wants, If you are happy with it yourself carry on but for some of us Mapsource does all we need and does not require the re inventing of the wheel to get it to work.

We have to stop meeting like this :beerjug:
It will do what he wants he just does not know how to which is fine i suppose but sooner or later mapsource will be gone.

Full circle john !

I take my hat of to those who have mastered Basecamp, maybe when I finally retire I will have time to try to get to grips with it. Right now each time I try it just raises my blood pressure! Last attempt was yesterday when all I wanted to do was modify a route that we have used for years. The road layout has changed and one section is no longer open. I can do this in seconds in Mapsource. I gave up after about a dozen failed attempts. Granted it was not helped by the fact that the latest Garmin maps do not show the new bridge (built around 2009 I think) but even using the openstreetmaps version which is correct I still could not get it to modify the route correctly.

Not quite sure how you think Mapsource will disappear. It's downloaded to 6 machines here so Garmin have no control over it. Should there be a problem I could copy the entire thing from another machine. As of now it is still possible to download Mapsource so it is still replaceable although not from Garmin.

As I said, good on those who can work Basecamp, it obviously can be made to work. I just don't have the time to devote to learning to use something that for me at least offers no real advantage over what I am used to.
