So far my experience of ghosting has been with the unit on the bike, with the engine running (Duh). I have never experienced it when using the unit in the car on 12V power.

So I realised that the difference between the two scenarios is that in the car, the cable just supplies power whereas on the bike, there is the Canbus data too.

If I get ghosting, I normally thoroughly clean the screen and the mount / device contacts but it doesn’t last long before the ghosting comes back.

I have long thought that the problem might be down to RFI on the data segment of the cable and then I remembered that I had some clip on Ferrite cores in my garage drawers. I dug one out and I fitted it to the GPS cable. It’s a bit loose but that’s not really an issue.

Subsequently, I haven’t experienced ghosting but it’s early days yet as I also cleaned the screen and contacts again.

I’ll keep you posted.

If you want to try this too, Ferrite cores things can be found on Amazon for not many pennies.

Sadly, the answer is No I Haven't found a cure.

Reminds me of….

Nav VI ghosting, screen unresponsive so can't enter anything. Device is 4 years old, so had a good run. Rang Garmin Tues first thing, they are replacing FOC, will wait and see

I purchased my Nav 6 in 2015, all went well until 2023 when ghosting, page changing etc started. I sent the Nav 6 to GPS Station in Germany to get sorted. After getting it back it has been faultless. It's not cheap but better than messing about trying fix it or away in Europe and it plays up.

Or just contact Garmin, who will replace it (irrespective of age) with a third generation device….. all for nothing. In fact, don’t even bother waiting for the device to ghost, just contact Garmin and tell them that it is ghosting. Garmin have long since given up checking.

Really Richard. That’s good to know. Mine started ghosting last year and I have persevered but if it’s as you say then will send it back. Any tips on who or what dept to contact?

Any tips on who or what dept to contact?

Garmin Europe, here in the UK. They’ll put you thro’ to an ‘advisor’ or whatever it is they call them. They are usually very helpful, no matter what the query.

thanks for the tips guys. I called the number, had to wait for about 45 mins but a friendly young lady came on and without any ado simply said it would be replaced. Sent me a link and all done! Pretty decent if you ask me!
