NAV VI received.

These Nav devices complete the package for any touring motorcycle and I'll declare that I couldn't cope without my NavV and its fantastic integration. HOWEVER, NavVi lacks enough features to excite me: Garmin are already way ahead with their in car Nuvi cams that offer, as well as the usual navigation stuff, a forward facing accident cam (and it's adjustable), voice commands (maybe NavVI HAS THIS ?), collision warnings (proximity sensor) and lane warnings (the latter two would be hell on a motorcycle). Come on Garmin, we should at least be getting a forward facing camera now on Nav VI. Image quality is still crap with all accident cameras and I have yet to see one that's good enough to read number plates, but hey, it would still portray the event, even through the screen.

You're giving this far too much thought.

I do more thinking than riding, and I plot more routes than I ride, trust me, it's not a good thing.

It really isn't. Just get up in the morning, choose a destination, select twisty roads, and enjoy.:thumb

He might be, but for £675 I expected more. On bmw cars you can select your destination from google maps and send it to your car, yet on the NavVI I have to type in a post code and door number like it's 2005 again.

£675? You've been had!:D

I can use my Nav to navigate to addresses stored in my phone. If that's not good enough, you could do what JB does, and use the stars to navigate.:D

I wont be buying a Nav VI after learning they are completely dropping support for the Nav V even though it's being sold. Don't expect Garmin to support these products...

Fredaroony, that is disgusting service and worrying that bmw are actively selling a device which has no support whatsoever from the manufacturer.

Time to just use our smart phones and stop buying these iPhone priced Navs which really don't offer that much more than google maps.

Worst thing is that it's still being sold and I understand they aren't dropping the model either. It will be sold along side the 6.

I'd take this with a good pinch of salt. I'd be ringing them. Probably get a different tale from someone else. Wouldn't be the first time they've give out different info. No updates Planned but no mention of dropping support

What would support consist of then? Telling you to "re pair all bluetooth devices" and then "we have have exhausted all troubleshooting" like I got when I called them. That's what happens when you ring them...you get some clueless 21 year old who knows less about their products than you do.

I sent bluetooth debug logs to their engineering dept for months and it amounted to jack shit and only frustration on my end. I had thought once I finally reached someone with a clue that I would get somewhere but not with Garmin.

Have they even offered you a chargeable refurb?

It's already been swapped out by BMW but it's not a hardware issue. It's clearly a software issue and clearly as issue with the Nav V itself.

I told them that before they swapped it out but they wanted to try anyway. Of course, it still had bluetooth problems and I am not the only one.

Can't compare to the Nav V as my last Garmin was the Zumo 350, however the display in bright sunshine today was the best I've used on a bike.

After spending the day on my bike with the Nav 6 today, I have to say that I'm not overly impressed with it.

Things I didn't like:

1. Screen glare
2. It gets dirty, quickly, covered in fingerprints
3. Using it to play music, I can't forward to the next song on my Interphone unit, I have to use the screen. This alone has made me disconnect from my headset, so I won't be using the media player
4. I like the way it automatically connected to my phone when I started the bike, but didnt like that once the bike was switched off, any song that you were playing then comes out of the phone speaker. Could be embarrassing if you're listening to the sort of shite I do!:D

I suppose I'd better read the manual, to see if there's a way around these last two issues.

Nutty, I can skip songs from my headset - Sena 10S. You can skip songs without using the screen but you have to hold left/right on the click wheel.

Overall though, I'm with you. Underwhelmed with it.

I'll try that. It's a bit like when a new iPhone comes out. You convince yourself that the new features will be worth the change, then when you get it, it's very underwhelming!

V vs. VI

Guys.
I'm new to this site ,so be gentle with me . I've just swapped my KTM 1190 ( it was burning my thigh and arse off - known issue, so it was time to go), anyway I'm now the proud owner of a New R1200 GS and I want to add a Sat Nav to the bike.
Now my question is ; do I go for the V or the VI , I won't be listening to music ( I struggle to do, two things at once anyway ) I just want Navigation and the ability to received the odd phone call ( sorry I don't mean strange phone calls, just infrequent ones !)
Any thoughts ?
Thanks in anticipation.
Livo.
