I am fortunate enough to have been able to put down a deposit for a new TE GS. This model comes pre-wired for the Navigator iv. At present i have a zumo 220 which i am happy with. Will i be able to disconnect the cradle from the bar and just wire the Zumo into the headstock. I am guessing that the 220 will not function from the flywheel on the bar but i do not see this as a big deal. Not sure how much the Navigator unit is but i suspect it will significantly dearer than the 660. Will a 660 work from the flywheel on the bar ?

A Nav IV is now about £600. Owning a Nav IV and understanding how it differs from the Zumo, I doubt that a vanilla Zumo 660 will work with the controls on the handlebar of the new GS.

I believe that there's a similar level of integration to the bar controller as there is on the K16GTs. This means that a zumo 660 will work on the TE the same way as it does on a GT - you can only control it from the touch screen not the bars. The nav IV has additional interface software installed, not found on a 660.....

Thanks for the replies. As much as i would like a Navigator IV i think i will just make do with the 220. I suspect there will be a similar connector on the new bike where i can wire in my 220. Not sure how much of a valve there is in being able to control the unit via the flywheel. After all its not as if you want to be setting the unit on the move.

Keep what you've got is my advice

£600 is fecking ridiculous :rob

Put it in context - a Streetpilot III was £1500 when it was first released. I remember paying £580 + VAT for mine in Makro cash 'n' carry in early 2004.

In real terms the price of even the top of the range GPS units has come down significantly while the level of technology has increased.

Yeah but a Betamax VCR was about £500 when they first came out, you can now get a Blueray player and a flat screen full HD TV to go with it for that price so technology is 'cheaper' across the board.

My point was in relation to similar devices now, its over £200 dearer that a bog standard 660 for the privilege of using the wheel controller which is a totally pointless addition.
I for one would pull over to reprogram my sat nav rather than arse around while still riding which is asking for trouble IMHO

I've got a 660 and wanted to see what would be missing so nipped in to my dealer (Balderstons) and TJ kindly put my Zumo in to a K16.

It seems you only lose three functions, zoom in, out and back to the main page.

If the GS is the same it's no big deal.

I've got a new WC TE coming and will probably remove the mount BM supply and fit the original as supplied from Garmin. (I don't like the buttons much on the BM one)

If I could have ordered the bike without I would have.

Just waiting to find out what stops working when I unplug the mount supplied!!

I have a TE on order and I am holding on to my 660 but when they say the TE is satnav ready I don't think they mean it has a mount for the 660, it just has the wheel on the left bar. The NavIV is the satnav with mounting dock and the cable from the dock presumably has a connector that picks up the wheel signal as well as power.

The 660 mount only connects the power and I guess I will have to buy a TT mount to fit it on the screen brace (or use the original ram mount stuff).

Edit: I have just seen 'GPD bracket' mentioned in the TE spec so maybe this is the mechanics of a GPS mount.

No need to buy a TT mount.

2x15mm hospital pipe brackets sprayed silver with a bit of hammerite smooth.
8x15mm tap washers.

Makes a vibration free sat nav mount that will mount onto any 15mm bar looks good.
Total cost less than £3

Steve ( I love my cheap fixes,even on a 14k bike)

Unfortunately I don't think the LC has a 15mm bar to mount to, it looks more like a cast screen brace that will rotate as the screen is adjusted.

Navigation preparation on the TE includes all mounting hardware and cabling, basically everything you need except the actual unit.:rob

GS or bust - I may be wrong but my understanding was the sat nav preparation was the nav IV mount wired in, just no nav IV itself.

I also understand the wheel on the left bar has other functions not just to control the nav and that's why the sat nav prep only comes in the packages with the ESA etc.

If I'm right (normally not!) you should be able to clip your 660 straight in - the problem is the nav IV holder fouls the earphone socket on the unit. I'm not so keen on Bluetooth head sets and just like to plug my earphones in to the unit. On my last GS I routed an extension from the mount back to the seat but that was a 550, the 660 mount has it wired in.

I'm going to buy a cheap Bluetooth unit (£8.00) off eBay as a temp fix. But as soon as in can I'll swap the mounts.

If I'm wrong about all this, I'm sorry. We'll know for sure on March the 1st.

The BM site says "mounting facility for navigation device". !

From the 2012 price list, the holder, mount and 4 screws cost £72.55 so, I'm guessing that's what we are getting in the "prep for sat nav"

I have found a picture of the satnav here in set 5, the question is whether we just get the metal mounting bar with a flat plate to take the dock, or whether it includes a wired in dock also.

All this speculation just adds to the anticipation.

I would guess that you get the dock. The one in the pic certainly isn't the usual Navigator IV mount. It lacks the hard buttons down the side which are obviously redundant because of the wheel on the left bar. So it's pretty much guaranteed to be a new GS-specific mount. Unless, they're going to sell two versions of the Nav IV, one with the original mount and one with the one in your pic....:nenau

Good find, I would be happier with that one than the normal mount with buttons.

24 sleeps to go!

my bike isn't the TE version, just standard. about £900 to have a Nav 4 on it!!!!!

looking at Satnaveasy for a 660, being a nav numpty, what is a good mounting bracket? And I've a preference for mounting above the clocks, but dont see that on TT website

Found Handtec http://www.handtec.co.uk/ good on price for satnavs. You may want to compare their price.
