Navigator IV map update

Plugged my new Navigator IV in to the computer at about 5pm, and its downloading the map update and lifetime map update. It's about 60% complete and has been downloading for 4 hours. Is it normal for it to take this long, as we're on a fairly decent connection?

Garmin servers are very slow so it doesn't matter what speed you have at your end. I ended up doing it several times before it installed properly, a right ol' faff

I left it running through the night when I went to bed, and it updated Just under 9 hours to update

Now, time to plan some rides

Took 8 hours on mine for initial install will not be bothering with the updates as since then my speed and service has declined

Never had issues with just letting the update run though the night, always done by the morning. It's several GB of data and Garmin limit bandwidth at their end so it's obviously going to take some time.

That's probably why they call it a «lifetime map update.»
