Hi guys,
I have purchased a second hand Navigator IV. All seems well, however when I slow down to a certain speed a message appears to ask whether you want to turn off the unit. It would be ok but it flickers on and off and I am unable to press the button to stay on. Has anyone else had this problem and can you switch it off anywhere in the settings?

No issues with my nav v. Seems to be a connection/contact point issue. Is it sitting well in the cradle? Clean the contact point on the nav and on the bike once and check. Also check with an alternate device if possible.

Should it do it? No

What is causing it? Best guess would be a dirty power connection between the cradle and the device, the GPS unit vibrating. Clean the contacts carefully and make sure the unit is locked into its cradle properly.

PS There is a very good GPS section on the forum.

Got wife/girlfriend? Use nail polish remover. If no, use a bit of petrol. Dip the tip/corner of a cloth (or use the tip of an ear bud) and rub on contact points (just damp, not too wet) . Try not to touch the plastics.

Other electrical specialists here may give a more technical solution.

A first step may be to try another nav v in the cradle to narrow down the source of the problem. If you near RG14 post code, PM me and you can try my nav v.

Thanks guys. How would you clean the contacts?

Just start by trying a (clean) handkerchief or similar rubbed over both sets of contacts.

A pencil rubber will also clean them.

Failing that, get some contact cleaner from Maplins. Avoid acetone or petrol, you'll probably end up melting the plastic or leaking some into the body of the device / cradle.
