I decided to update my Navigator V last night as I'd not done it in a while... it did a map update but this morning the wheel is not working and it won't switch off when I turn the ignition off (2014 GSA LC).

Anyone else had this problem, a search brought nothing up but I vaguely remember a post about something similar a while back. Any simple fixes? I'll probably try a master reset if no joy.

i had something similar, nav 6 and one morning wheel wouldnt work sat nav unresponsive turned it off at work and when home time arrived all worked perfectly and so has been since

Fingers crossed then it'll work when I go down to it after work.

Is it seated in the mount correctly ?

Yeah I think so, its working normally otherwise.

I would suggest that you check what maps you now have. As I found to my cost after my last update I was left with only Northern Europe including UK, with the rest only covered by the global map which lacks any detail. I found this to my cost on a recent trip to France when the satnav gave me no detailed road display or turn by turn directions from the pre-planned routes I had loaded before setting off. The Europe maps are now apparently too big for the device memory and have been split into two parts. Because both parts had installed in Basecamp on my PC I had assumed the same detail was available in the Nav itself.

The solution is supposedly to put an SD card in the device and then Garmin Express will use that space to load the maps that don't fit on the device. If only it had been so simple. In reality I did this many times, as have others, only to find that although the maps install successfully on the SD card, the Nav crashes at the loading maps stage and repeatedly reboots. Following advice online I uninstalled and reinstalled Garmin Express and retried with no success, and the same when I tried on a different PC. It was only when I installed Garmin Express on a third PC, which had never had any Garmin software on it previously, that the process was successful. Very poor information from Garmin about this so I was not impressed and was all set to throw the whole thing back at the dealer!

I will follow this with great interest because if there is a way to stop that bloody wheel I will take it.
The amount of times I catch it when indicating.

Same here - I don't have large hands, so it makes reaching the indicator switch more difficult and it gets knocked almost every time. To be honest I would prefer the wheel to not be there if it could be easily uninstalled. Anybody know how to remove it?

Fred

I'll check, thanks for the heads up.

Just updated mine over the past few days...............I say "few days", as it took so bloody long I thought my internet connection (which isn't good at the best of times), had failed. In the end, it finished in the middle of last night.
Just checked it on the bike and the wheel still works, and it did say at the time that the maps were going onto the SD card. Watch this space as I'm in Spain/France in 2 wks.

Seems to be working ok now... very odd. It took a few cycles of removing it from the dock (because it wasn't switching off when I parked) but at least it all works now. Will have to check the maps next...

Had this on mine a few months back. Water had managed to get into the nav mount. Striped, cleaned and protected and ok since. One thing to look out for if you do strip it down, is the small nuts at the back dropping down and disappearing. I placed masking tape over them to keep them safe.

my guess would be.....if the wheel dont work when the navs hooked up, it may be the contacts were the Nav sits in the cradle....if the nav is working fine out of the cradle. If the nav is not working fine out of the cradle..EG can't turn off or flick between pages, disconnect the battery, leave out for 10 secs, then pop back in
