Just picked my F800 up.

after a few miles I notice that the 'range' is only 80 miles.

so I stop and fill up with fuel.

Still >80 miles

Now I'm home and the manual says this is normal.

the range function lets you know you can do more than a certain distance.

not very impressed with that - at least my 30 year old K gives you a clue

When full you normally get >120 on the display until level drops low enough down tank for calculation to be made.

Pal, first time i filled up from leaving BMW i thought i broke the bike as the fuel light stayed on even after filling it up. As soon as you move it goes off and should keep rising to about 118>.

I have to admit its taking me a few weeks and a couple of fill ups to learn about the GS. Still not happy with my range though but i guess the restricter is causing my bad MPG.

Generally mine says >115, but I'll fill up on the light.

This has been covered recently - just fill a 5L can and take it with you and run the bike dry. You'll see then how accurate or not the DTE on the computer really is and will know how far your actual fuel will really take you...

They stick to last reading a bit when you leave the garage after filling up but then rise after a fashion but in general.

Yes the range lets you know more than you can actualy do

my computer reads eratic until it gets into the 70-odds then counts down wirh sense, until the light allways comes on at 29 left. and there is more in the tank on mine after it reads zero.

To run it dry (whilst carrying spare fuel) let me know its capacity beyond the indicated zero range.

You might want to try that one day to know if your cup is half full or half empty.

I think they all differ slightly as some will say when indicated empty then it is.


The computer is a good indicator when its getting low when its full you will know as you just filled it

Depending on how it was ridden my old (as in written off) 650 twin would do between 200-250 miles to the tank if thats any help
