need a little help

I received the following message from an old friend who is trying to revisit a place whose name he can not remember. His description does not sound familiar to me.
Can anyone help?

Hello again. Back in the 90s I was driving around the south of Ireland (Killarney, Cork, Mallow, Waterford areas. I drove through a beautiful village / town that I would like to visit again, but I don't remember its name. There was a large, flat, green area with a river split into two, parallel paths, one of which fed into an old mill. Do you know the name of this town?

castletownroche, county cork, the writer of the song the olde rustic bridge by the mill, which is not about castletownroche is buried in the protestant church looking down on the mill. the pedestrian bridge on the green by the mill is in fact an old railway bridge.

the picture in wikipedia shows the mill, the mill race, the bridge etc. as you approach from the fermoy/ballyhooly side.the other end of the village on the mallow road is usually festooned with flowers.
there is a very impressive viaduct a relic of the mallow to rosslare line about 2 miles down towards Bridgetown Abbey, the abbey which i believe featured in a photo rally once.

I believe some where in the family is a picture of the last train as it stopped at "Rea's Cross", Killavullen where the Castletownroche station was located.
