Need Advice Shipping bike from Morocco to Japan

Hi Gents

This is really an appeal for advice on behalf of a fellow biker from Japan, Hisao, who is with me here in Chefchaouen.

Hisao has ridden all the way from Hokkaido on his Yamaha Serow, but now needs to get back to Hokkaido as his nine-months-pregnant-wife is now calling time on his adventures!

His EU insurance has already expired so shipping the bike to Japan from Morocco would avoid hassle (but might be more expensive all in?)

Does anyone have any experience with shipping from Moroccan ports? Would Spain be a better option for him despite the extra time?

Any advice or non-offensive recommendations much appreciated

I'd nip into Port Du Tanger and see if there are any shipping agents there......but start in Tetuan, where I suspect there will be some for that port.

There are definitely shipping routes from Gibralta to Japan, and I'd be extremely surprised if Maersk didn't run to Japan from Algeciras as well.....it's a VERY busy area.

If you need assistance with the language, nip up the hill to the Paradour.....there are some perfect English speakers up there and I'm sure that for a drink, one of them would call a shipping agent for you

Funny you mention the Parador, just ran into Charlie Boorman's group there :-D

Thanks for the advice, no language problem for me but a big one for Hisao. Plan is to get him hooked up with a good agent in either Casa or Tangier.

Any recommendations for either port?

Purely a guess, but Tanger Du Med (not the old port)

For one thing it's less than an hour from where you are, it's modern and I'd guess better set up and more likely to have international shipping for the sort of thing you're after....Casablanca certainly imports a lot of stuff but (again, purely a guess) it's a long-established port that is probably focussed on commodities and so on.

I think that I would prefer to do this from Spain but either way, it shouldn't be too hard to make a stillage/case. I'm sure some local would knock one up.

Deffo use a professional shipping agent - they don't have to be in Morocco. Try someone like www.uniexpress.co.uk - I'm sure they will have agents all over the world.

I'd also prefer Spain but his tyres are shot - he's done all 25000k on one set - as well as the insurance problem.

Have got in touch with Uniexpress, seem like a decent outfit and they are contacting him tomorrow with options Insha'Allah.

Just seen this thread , give Eastgate in Gib a call 00350 20052100 and Ask for Colin , they can certainly do Spain pickup. Colin is the boss and is very well connected, if it can be done he is the man. Best of luck.

So what happened with Hisao? Did you manage to get him safely on his way back to Hokkaido?

In the end uni express never got back so he rocked up to the port at Casa and went through a local outfit. All's well that ends well ☺
