need help..

i have a r80/7 1980 and was just wondering if someone could help me, the bike runs fine ,well as fine as can be expected until i put the lights on then it seems to stutter at the top of the revs when i ask for more power, when the lights are off no problem,any ideas, i would be grateful

Hmmmm difficult to diagnose from that.

Is the alternator charging OK ?

Is the battery OK ?

If they are, I would start going through the loom cleaning all the connections - particularly the earths.

Have a good look at the handlebar switchgear and spray the contacts with WD40.

It sounds as though power is being lost from the coil(s) when extra electrical load is applied.

It could also be a short in the lighting circuit - do the lights actually work when you turn them on ?

If cleaning all contacts doesn't work - you will need to check current flow with a multimeter with various things switched on.

It will be something simple - its just a matter of tracking it down

thanks bob , the lights work properly and the volt meter says its charging ok, the needle goes down when you put the lights ,indicators on an then returns to just under 14 v in normal running conditions, onn looking at the loom there`s loads of connections been made with tape so i have the proper connectors now and i`ll go through them all like you say an check em and fix accordingly.....
