netbook really slow to load

I have a toshiba netbook which is really really slow to boot up, currently running windows 7, have downloaded advanced system care5,but has'nt really helped,any ideas to speed up the boot up process,

Download and run 'CCleaner' from Piriform (its free). It has a tool under the Toolbox icon called Startup. Look closely at all of the entries in there - leave the Microsoft stuff enabled and your mouse/trackpad drivers, but disable programs that look like they're not essential. Things like quick startups, update checkers, anything from Apple and so on. On my desktop PC for example, there are not even any Microsoft programs in the startup, just a few apps that I know I want. So don't be afraid to disable stuff.

Then use CCleaner to empty your internet browser cache. This alone can speed things up enormously.

Then use the registry cleaner tool to fix registry errors. Let CCleaner make a backup of the registry and make a note of where it is, just in case.

It should now boot a whole lot quicker than before :thumb2
 
My desktop is just so slow so I thought i would give this a go.
I downloaded the program and set it off running but after an hour it was still stuck on 2% complete:eek Tried cancelling the program and after 10 mins it still shows "Cancelling" ..... It was as though the program had stopped responding. How long should it take to run the cleanup eg, 5 mins, Half hour, hour 3 hours etc......

I still cant get this program to run. I did a virus check and removed 1 which ESET didn't do automatically for some reason and have tried to run it again but it just hangs up after 2% complete:nenau

I have tried the analyze function and it does that quickly but wont run the clean up. ANy ideas?

I've just run CCleaner on my desktop PC to check my settings. So in the Windows tab of the Cleaner tool the boxes checked are:

Internet Explorer: temp internet files and history

Windows: empty recycle bin, temp files, clipboard, memory dumps, file fragments and windows log files.

In the apps tab there are quite a few boxes ticked - I leave these to the program defaults. You could uncheck all and see if that speeds up the Cleaner.

The analysis part is the slowest - but you can see it chuntering through the files. Usually over within a minute or two, then cleaning takes seconds as it deletes files.

If the delay is in deleting files it sounds as though some of the files may be in use. Close all running programs before running CCleaner, and then uncheck all boxes except the ones I have described above in the Windows section.

My only other suggestion is to remove CCleaner and then reinstall it in case something went wrong on installation.

Big files on the desktop apparently slow the boot up process. I've been told it's best to only use shortcuts on the desktop for this reason.

Agree on getting rid of all the start up rubbish as well.
 
Just tried the above but still teh same. It does the analysis olay in about 3 minutes but when I run the clean up just cycles between Internet History and something else (cant remember). When I cancel it nothing happens and I have to shut it down in task manager which says 'program not responding'.

Just a thought, I use Firefox but also have Internet Explorer but I wouldn't have thought this was an issue.

Andy, you may have another virus or malware which is interfering with CC. Try the reinstall and see what happens. If that does not work then I'd be tempted to try another AV/Malware program or run the free utility online at http://housecall.trendmicro.com/uk/index.html
 
Well I tried the unistall and then reinstall and exactley the same :(

I have fully paid up ESET Nod 32 ant i Virus and Paid up AntiMalwearbytes but nothing coming up.
Anyway after the reinstall its just teh same, I left it for 4 hours but still stuck at 2%.

I'll give this housecall program a shot at finding anything sinister:thumb2

That ran perfectly with no issues found... still not sure what to do. I've heard there is a good windows tool for sorting issues but for the love of me I cant remember what it is... can anyone recomend anything else:thumb2
 
I seem to be having an issue with my Outlook which doesn't want to open up and also has to be closed down using task manager. When I go to reopen again it says do I want to open in Safe mode.... I may try removing and reinstaling Outlook but hopefully I can do it keeping my emails and address book.....

Andy, to avoid losing data make sure you make a copy of your Outlook.pst file. This contains your emails and contacts,

Mine is in a directory called C:\Users\John\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Thanks for that. I was going to save the pst file but thought that was just the contacts so that's good news:thumb2
 
Andy, in your situation I think my next move would be to remove the AV programs. Outlookcould be taking ages because it is checking the mail file for errors, and at the same time the AV is probably checking every message too :(

Start Windows in safe mode, turn off the AV, let Outlook start and fix its mail file. Remove the AV and see if the machine boots a lot quicker. Then run CCleaner and see if it becomes quicker still.

If the AV programs are the cause of the slow running replace them with Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and works very well - it's the only AV I have on my home machines. Because it is Microsoft software it integrates completely with Windows and seems to have minimal impact on speed.
