Hi can anyone shed some light on this.
I have bt infinity. I replaced the bt home hub with an Apple airport express 2012 to overcome the airplay issue however the apple box only had one rj45 socket.
I thought I'd try my old netgear dgn 1000 fed by the
Rj 45 from the apple box. After trying a few settings with it all wired together I did a complete hard reset of the netgear.
To my amazement when it restarted the router automatically linked up to the apple box and started to act as a switch.
The wired and wireless all work and get good speed

The only thing I can't do it go into router settings like normal by dialing 192.168.0.1.
When things are connected to the netgear they appear to be assigned an ip from the apple router.
Anyone suggest why this started working all of a sudden and how do I find the address to get into the netgear settings.

Thanks.
Jiff.

if you use Airport Utility, it should give you the IP address of the Netgear router.

prolly not the quickest way to get to it but try
click apple -> system preferences -> network -> select WiFi on the left -> Advanced Button (lower right) -> TCP/IP up top -> should have the default gateway
(this is based on OSX Lion - should be similar in all)

if that doesn't lead to the netgear I'm guessing the netgear is just acting as a switch rather than a router, if thats the case there are no settings it's just acting as a 4 port extention to ethernet from the apple router
but thats just a guess

Cheers for help. I found out how to put the router in bridge mode. Reset router to factory and then plugged into existing network. Dialed into router and set up in bridge mode. Turned of wireless which is what I wanted to do. Then set the ip at the top of the apple range and restarted.
All fixed plus I can now dial into the router as I know the ip and turn on the wireless if I want.
Could be handy when the kids get older and need their own wifi.
I think like you said when I hard reset with the apple network the router just went into bridge mode automatically.

awesome
glad it worked out, home networking can be fun, once you get the swing of it
