Neutral ...... or not?

Went to start the bike (1200gs) yesterday, checked the gear indicator showed neutral, pressed starter, and bike lurched forward almost pulling my arms out of their sockets.

Common problem?

Clean the gear sensor wires at the back of the gearbox, just below the rear shock
