My new 1250 has has an intermittent clutch issue since day one. I mentioned it to the shop when it was getting the first service and had hoped it would get better after the first service.

I was parked up after a long spin and just put it into gear to bring it into the garage and it made a crunch like I wasn't using the clutch to change into 1st from Neutral. Its the second or third time that happened. Sometimes it goes from being really smooth shifting to feeling like a bike with a cable clutch that hasn't been adjusted properly.

Has anyone had anything similar happen ?? Its my 3rd GSA , so i'm familiar enough with them.

Compared to my 2016 1200 it does clunk (not crunch) going in to 1st when cold. The 1200 was whisper quiet when cold, but clunky like my 1250 at all other times. Apart from the engaging 1st clunk it's as good as any other BMW boxer I've had.

Well ... a little update.

The bike dropped out of 1st on its own yesterday on a corner and I nearly fell off. Along with that it made a very loud crunch when moving it into the garage afterwards. Enough that my wife could hear it upstairs in the bedroom. Its off to the BMW shop now for a new gearbox.

Wet clutches drag so a clunk into 1st is normal...what you describe though is not.

My 1200GS Rallye TE always 'clunks' into 1st when hot, 99% of the time it goes in without a sound when cold - go figure :)

That is good news...Don't let Arsey read that but the gearbox/clutch are Made in Japan...;)

Little update to this thread. Bike jumped out of second on a roundabout last week mid-lean into neutral. Its back with BMW at the moment and they claim they can't find an issue !

The previous day it started crunching going into first again.

it's worse than that, it's bloody lethal. suggest they trailer it back to the dealer's and fix it properly. I can see they might not know what else to change, but it needs fixing

Two gear boxes doing the same thing whilst cornering? I would be searching for a common factor…:nenau your left boot perhaps?

The gearbox is an integral part of the engine on the LCs. What exactly did they replace for you ?

Likewise , ive never heard a box clunk so much when going down the box even using the clutch

what was your pevious bike? and what boots you wearing on this one?

Reject it and let them provide you with a new bike. If you’ve had it less than 30 days you can do this, no questions asked. However as you’ve given the dealer an opportunity to rectify the problem and they have tried unsuccessfully to do so, you can obtain a replacement bike regardless.

I've been driving the bike without an issue for the past year. Plenty of trouble free miles and smiles.
However leaving work today gear shifting felt stiff and crunched into 1st. Probably the heat I thought.
Final corner onto my street after taking the long way home (30klms) and the bike hopped out of 1st and into nothing ! Blank gear and then neutral , all mid bend !! I caught it all on camera like the last time.

Oh and different boots this time ;)
