After a few demos on all versions of the 1300 in std/GSA/ASA forms and then a demo on a 1250 I decided to opt for one of the last remaining 1250 Trophys available.

After the demo on the 1250 I just felt it had a charm and character which suits my needs better. The 1300 is a great bike but not for me at this stage.

Anyway, here it is and farkles are being added already - SC Project, Touratech etc.

It's a great bike, congrats!!

I love mine (same bike). When I test rode the 1300s I was glad to get back on mine. Don't get me wrong, I liked the 1300s, and the ASA, but it was just my bike and everything I need.

The correct decision.

With each iteration of the GS it loses a little bit of character - ask all those 1150 owners...
But who would of thought that a 1250 could be described as having `character`!!!
The 1300 is sterile, inert and bland-ola.

I had an 1150 in 03 so I know the way things have changed. Those were the days! WhatsApp Image 2024-11-27 at 19.06.28_1efa50bc.jpg

Great choice of bike and SC project is great, I went for the black carbon one , sounds a treat .
Baffles remain in until I take em out-If I work out how 🫣

Enjoy, I'm surprised there's still some left. Best colour too (although I have the gold wheels on mine).

I keep toying with taking the baffles out of my Akra, but I don't know how strict BMW will be with their warranty.

Love my 1250GSA but swapping for a 1300 GSA ASA , just wondered what about it wasn't for you ? you will love it
Hey Rob - thanks I'm excited for sure.
Re the 13s there's no doubt they are all competent and high performing bikes.
What put me off the 13 ADV was a few things:
Engine - definitely more powerful than the 1250 but too revvy and not relaxed enough at low revs with what felt like less torque than the lazy 1250 motor. Don't really want a racy engine on a tourer (used to have 1290SA so know the feeling).
Noise - the tappety sound at low revs was irritating to me despite ear plugs etc.
Comfort - the bars felt low, seat punted me too far forward on to the tank which then splayed my legs out too much.
Looks - just couldn't warm to them (subjective of course) but if I'm dropping £20K+ I want to enjoy the feeling of opening up the garage door each time.
Positives - loved the electric screen! Liked the tech but wouldnt want the radar/lowering stuff anyway. Luggage options look good. Trophy colour scheme looks great.
ASA - very efficient and ironed out a lot of the rough edges of the boxer engine but my experience from owning a DCT Crosstourer in the past meant that I actually missed the fun of manually changing gear (bit like on a TMAX that I used to own).
Horses for courses and just my 2p worth.

If it's a Euro5 spec like mine then they will be welded in unfortunately. Mine is fine for me.

Agree on both counts.
When i took out the 13GSA the salesman not once but twice mentioned in passing that the 13 was best ridden in a similar fashion to an XR in that it`s power delivery characteristics were best enjoyed further up the rev range. That set alarm bells ringing for me straight away as like you i much prefer a relaxed, lazy, flexible and torquey feel to my boxers.
I`m not sure i would entirely agree with him on that comparison as the 13 wasn`t lacking in flexibility but i did get the impression on the GSA test ride that the engine missed the increased grunt that i thought i experienced when i took out a 1300GS earlier in the year. I think the 1250 is just smoother and more `elastic` in it`s power delivery which feels more satisfying.
There`s no dispute about the engine noise though, the 13 sounds dreadful - like a rusty push-along lawnmower. The aural side of motorcycling is a very important factor and if doesn`t sound right on the ears the whole riding experience can be ruined. The 1250 is bad enough......

I much preferred the 1250 GSA over teh 1300 GS a year ago and bought a new Trophy. 1 Year on and 6k miles I love it. You don't have Anakees so will like your bike even more.

The 1300 GSA is out now, so that back to back with mine I haven't tried. I guess it's inevitable in a couple oy years I'll get one though as I actually think they look pretty cool.

Enjoy your new bike!

Agree with the OP, went thrpugh the same process myself earlier this year and went for the 1250GSA, which for me was a no brainer, especially at £5000 less.

Congratulations on the new bike. I had a 1250 GS and was waiting to the 1300 but once I’d seen it decided a 1250 GSA would be the better option for me.
I will admit it’s taken me a while to click with the GSA, predominantly due to the height and how much I loved my GS but I’m getting there.
Also a ex DCT Crosstourer owner but I loved the gearbox so the ASA has an appeal. In reality I think my GSAs replacement when the time comes will be something smaller.

@GS TRV the baffles are welded in on my Akro (the BMW Motorrad one) but they're only spot welded and apparently easy to grind off, there's plenty of videos on youtube showing this. I don't have the tools to do it but know someone that does, my only 'worry' is that I'd want the bolts left in tact so that I can replace the baffles if needed.

Did similar and purchased then couldn’t live with the “Look” traded back to a better looking bike IMHO.

I tried mine today with baffles in and am well pleased - just enough rumble without being annoying.

I've done this a couple of times now & you just need to be careful with your Dremel when grinding off the small welds. It's really simple and the baffles can go back in as you wish.
