Hi

Just fitted new battery after optimate decided that old one needed desulphating, and getting the dreaded click when trying to start up.

Noticed very slight spark on connection of new battery?

Optimate has now indicted brand new one needs desuphating to and refuses the either top up the charge or indicate any condition ie fully charged or charging, only showing desulphating.

Optimate connected to battery via additional non canbus aux socket.

Bike starts fine on new battery, first press of the starter.

Any ideas, advice

Thanks

Harry

I had a similar problem on a previous bike. Eventually found the problem to be an ever so slightly loose connection to the battery. Only found it when I connected the Optimate directly to the battery using the crocodile clips and found it to be OK. It may be that you have a poorish connection where you plug in your Optimate. Try connecting the Optimate directly to the battery.

Hope this helps!

Also try disconnecting the battery from the bike in case the clock, alarm or something is interfering with the optimate.

Hi

Thanks guys

Just back from a decent ride, disconnected new battery and used croc clips.

Result as before, think optimate has died.

Thanks again for advice

Harry

One last resort....try cleaning and "squeezing" the metal terminals inside the plastic connector on the Optimate. If the connector pins gets a bit loose or corroded it will give the same de-sulphate light and refuse to do anything else. Mine has done this, and a clean and terminal tighten usually sorts it.

Best of luck! :)

Check all wiring on the Optimate. If it seems ok, start the engine (from cold) a few times then disconnect battery. It should now be less than fully charged so maybe the Optimate will give a different reading. Also try it on the car battery.
