My curent battery is already 7 years old. Still running but showing signs of weakening which means every morning going trough the rutine of stopping to restart the engine to reset the ABS.
So, for the forthcoming winter with heated jacket, grips, Hella lights, etc. I decide to splash on a brand new Odissey thingy, the one many people seems to rave about.
A Web search led to this people who for 90 quids inc. VAT and delivery are snding me a PC 680. But more important, they also supply the connectors. So if you need a battery for this winter (or the connectors), contact them

you didn't try CPC batteries in twickenham did you ?

Yosi, you'll find that those battery posts don't clear the tank by much. Rather than use the post, I modified the positive lead (simple job with a pliers) so that it fits flush to the battery. I used the post on the negative side as it made fitting the battery easier and there will not be to be an arcing issue.

Unfortunetly, they can't deliver to a BFPO address and refund me the VAT.

Anybody got any good links to battery suppliers that stock the PC 680 or equivilant?

Cheers, I'll find out this weekend...

try http://www.motorbikebatteries.co.uk/

They have a Westco gel battery that fits the GS. I don't know anyone that has fitted this battery to a GS so can't comment on its performance. It is quite a bit cheaper than the PC680. Unfortunately, I had them recommended to me after I'd ordered from Knight. The company is excellent though. Batteries are generally delivered next working day to UK mainland addresses.

Note: you can only get a VAT refund if you are located outside the EU (your profile says you are in Cyprus which is in the EU now).

Wessie,

Cheers for that mate. I have emailed them and will see what they can do.

I can get the VAT back because I have a BFPO address (RAF Akrotiri) and the SBA's haven't fully integrated into Europe when it comes to things like trade etc

You will also find that the plastic guard over the +ve terminal won't fit - so you'll have to find an alternative. The terminals are higher on the battery than the OEM fitment so the advice about short circuits under the tank is well made - keep them low.

I fitted a hawker to my 1100 a couple of weekends ago - £90, faffing about with terminals and plaggy guards - it had better last forever!

FWIW - MotorWorks recommend that you DO NOT USE optimate or other similar chargers (not that you should need one) - a straight 4-6 amp car battery charger is all that is required. Something to do with infernal resistance.
