New Bike / Bad day

When my Multistrada arrived, there were stickers all over the red frame. It looked shite, so I peeled them all off and stuck them on an A4 sheet. It’s in the file, but I have a photocopy along with my other documents for when travelling abroad, just in case I get stopped one day. ;)

If you’re really worried you could stick them on a plastic sheet, then reapply them at the point of sale, I personally don’t think anyone would give a shit.

Or stick it in the owners manual, or under the seat somewhere..............I mean............it's just a bloody sticker. What happens if the OP is planning to go round the world a few times on it and over time it wears off/fades/becomes illegible from stone chips etc. Does the bike suddenly become a pariah at most foreign countries borders or does the average customs official have the first clue that it should be there in the first place? Bloody ridiculous! :blast

The information is also on the Reg docs so there is a backup if the sticker is missing.

it’s on the frame so that it can be Easily accessed for inspection when the bike is unaccompanied eg, when shipped, which wouldn’t be the case under the seat or in the manual etc.

It’s the normal placement for many bikes, it’s the application of it that’s failed not the location.

I think the dealer did the right thing. Could have you off if the wind caught it.

Exactly. :thumb

But it’s drummed into us that when travelling abroad on the bike to take a copy of the reg document, so it really is a non issue. The situation is truly bonkers, and as a few of us have already said, in the OP’s position I’d cancel the order with the dealer and go elsewhere. Where does this end?

Next up, BMW won’t allow a bike to go out if the dust caps aren’t done up tightly enough. :blast

I agree but I understand the dilemma for the dealer, it’s a legal requirement and likely bmw mandated to them having reported it.

For me personally I’m not that way minded that I would throw my toys out or seek compensation if it’s a few days wait. I wouldn’t kill me or tilt the world off it’s axis.

I certainly wouldn't.

My view is that the VIN Number/plate is all that's important and all the rest is Engineer's friends' EU bullshit which no-one will ever look at.

If foreign police want to get aroused over such trivialities they can find all the exciting information on the V5 which I understand you are required to carry when traveling abroad.

4 days on a two year PCP is 13% of your lease unless red wine has undermined my arithmatic.

You are of course correct but that approach doesn't work for the usual crowd on here taking any opportunity they can to get their pitch forks out.

Suggestions of rejecting the bike are as dumb as the regulations that caused this situation in the first place.

Indeed, but those regs as you know carry stupid amounts of penalty's and bureaucracy, which for the consumer mean nowt, but for manufacturer can be show stoppers

No not yet and at least 60 bikes in the UK were being held, probably more now. The dealer has been good tho , keeping me in the loop and lending me a bike
