New bike day

I just knew the footwear would get more attention than the bike. Wifey wanted some pics before I headed out East🤣🤣🤣🤣

Enjoy !
Why do they call it triple black when very little of it is black ? The tank certainly isn’t black, nor are the toaster racks or whatever they’re called on the side .

Looking at the above pic, the tank is more a pewter colour, the HUGE pannier frames are silver as are the ally bits on the front of the tank.
So,apart from the top part of the tank casing and the rear rack, there is very little black that isn’t on every bike, such as wheels, tyres, seat etc.
Just seems a stupid name-it’s not as if they’ve made any effort to make the bike as black as possible ?

is 'Black Knight' emblazoned on the side of a bike indicative of a good name?

Black chopsticks more like :p

Enjoy your new bike Grant, but you should’ve gone to specsavers first them to view the bike 🤣

Wasn’t it the black knight the one who got chopped to bits in Monty python? …..it’s but a flesh wound!

That be the stupid predictive text feature that keeps on replacing words.

All I meant was, that you should’ve gone to specsavers prior to going over to view the bike. 🤣

So today after my travels I was finally able to take the new bike out for a run. 200km along Hollands finest speed bump roads around Gouda.
A few interesting first observations

1. the warning yesterday of the adaptive height errors: dealer was completely right. I'd been fiddling with the bike, its electrics and particularly using the centre stand and auto raise function. Battery was low so the errors' came up. Charged overnight and all good. No more errors.......yet. ;)
2. No top box which still remains a big issue for me. Dealer cant even advise when they will be available but I sincerely hope before my fist longer trip mid June
3. ASA - well its not great in my opinion. Can be very jerky especially in the lower gears. Wont shift down quick enough for a quick overtake and tends to shift up to top very quickly. Not ideal but is it better than riding with a clutch - absolutely. Using the manual option makes it much more fun to ride.
4. Side stand raiser an absolute must in my mind. Got mine from Pedro in Portugal and works a treat.
5. Panniers. Actually they are bigger than the old Alu ones and much smoother when opening and shutting. Higher quality build I think.
6. lane change assist. Actually I quite like the warning triangle coming up. It does grab your attention.
7. Adaptive Cruise, Front collision and rear collision warning. All a load of bollocks if you ask me. I have eyes so I can see if I am going to hit something. If someone comes to fast behind me then its probably too late. Just more electronic gadgetry from BMW to make it more expensive and trendy. Not necessary in my mind but then again i haven't tried cruise control yet.
8. Height adjust. For getting the thing onto the centre stand or dolly - absolute must for a bike that size.
9. Adaptive ride height - not convinced especially with all the issues people seem to be having. It drops down around 25km/h and stay down until you get past 50km/h. In the lowered position it is much closer to the ground so for those with shorter legs also a good thing but my concern is all this raising and lowering will it pack up sooner or later.....
10. New screen is much better than the older 1250 with complete protection from wind and I sit at 6´2´´
11. I do notice that you sit ´´on´´ this bike as opposed to the older 1250 my feeling was more sitting ´´in´´ the bike.
12. Switches for menus etc. all a bit over the top and confusing. Having to select an option and ´´linking´´ that to your quick menu which only takes 1 option. Then a different bottom to service ONLY that single option. It means you need to learn quickly how it works and move your thumb a lot.

So concluding....
ASA - not great and some work to be done on this for future models but its a start. Better than the quick shift pro on the 1250.
...and in general the gearbox is much smoother albeit jerkier on changes.
..and a big thing for me there are so many gaps and crevices for crap to get into so for someone who has OCD for cleaning this one is going to be a bitch!!!

I hope the top box arrives soon and I hope I don't have too many gremlins to deal with. Am I overall happy with the machine? Yes!

a couple of pics of the bike today

ASA: I do wonder if it is self learning, the more you ride the smother it’ll get?

Adaptive cruise: handy in my opinion if you say set it at 110km/ph but there is a car in your lane driving at 105km/ph, you wish to pull out to overtake it, but there isn’t much space due to another vehicle occupying it in close proximity. The cruise will therefore automatically adjust to the speed of the vehicle traveling in front of you at the distance that you preset at. Once clear, indicate, pull out and cruise will automatically accelerate to the preset top speed. Saving you having to knock it off manually, modulate throttle in order to maintain distance and speed to the vehicle in front, then fiddle with switchgear to reset the cruise to a previously set speed. I ride and drive allot on cruise control, so would love this option on my bike/van/car.

Glad you loving the bike Grant. I wish you many happy miles and smiles.

Good for you Sir, loving the honest initial feelings from the first weekend up close with it.

Best statement is Am I overall happy with the machine? Yes!

Best thing to know about active cruise is to set it to the maximum speed you want to travel at, not necesarily the speed you're currently doing. Then sit back and relax :)
been using it today for a bit of motorway travel on the bike, its a great feature, one of those things that now ive used it, its a worthwhile improvement on standard cruise where the speed is fixed. Also good on fixed camera stretches where the vehicle infront of you drops back on the speed a bit, and you cant be arsed overtaking.
