My new bike is running so smooth!!! Their must be a problem...!!!
I currently have 250+ miles on her after todays little 60 mile CHILLY jaunt.
I've never had a bike run so smooth especially during wearing in.
BM reccommends the "R's" to stay below 4000 during the first 600 miles.
Me,the first 100 miles were 4-4500 RPM's. Then 4-5000 RPM's for the next 100 and now after 200 miles,I'm running her up to 5500 and 6000 occasionally. She is just running ever so sweet!! That motor likes to rev and the bike loves to go.
There is a heavily forested/residential area 10 miles north of my house that is nothing but hilly streets. 20-40 MPH posted roadway speeds. Of course I'm not paying any attention to the speed limits, just winding the bike out and constantly shifting going up and down through the gears, then just engine braking and letting her slow down.
At 80 miles, there was a definate "GOOD" feel/improvement to the engine during acceleration. And then again at around 150 miles, the engine feels better. Each session is roughly 50 miles total or about an hours time of riding. Also during riding there will be small cool down sessions, waiting at a stop sign or traffic light for traffic to clear/move.
With the temperatures hovering in the lo 40'sF everyday, I keep a small piece of cardboard blocking about 1/2 of the oil cooler off from the cold air. The oil temp hasn't gotten above 1/2 warm.
Oil consumption has just been noticed the other day with about 200 miles on her. While on the center stand with cold oil,the level is just a tad under the "Red Ring" at the top. Apparently she might have been a touch over full from the factory/dealer. I'm still safe tho, the oil level can go all the way down to almost out of the window before I need to add any.
I feel I am running her a bit hard, according to BM's standards, but she's accelerating so sweet n smooth. And power....it just keeps building and building!
Now, if I can only manage to go another 300 miles before the first 600 mile service "ticket free",
I'll be "Home Scott Free"!!!

I think the general opinion is that they are better if you run them in quite hard. I did this within reason and my engine is very smooth.
Enjoy

I think your running in method is sound - you want to work the engine a bit but not thrash it.

The bike possibly feels quite smooth because the weather is so cold - sounds funny but warm weather makes the oil a bit less viscous, and this makes the engine a little bit rattlier (is that a word?)

Once it's run in properly (at least 10,000 miles usually) and the warm weather comes around, you might like to change to a slightly heavier oil, say 10W/50 or 15W/50. I changed mine recently and the engine sounds and feels much sweeter. A 10W/50 oil should be suitable for all seasons - there's a chart in the handbook that shows the temperature ranges permissible for various oils.

Oh,I'm using the 20w50 oil "Dino", I just have the oil cooler blocked off to help keep the oil temperature up,showing 1/2 way up the scale. It's been cool,lo 40'sF.
Nope...not thrashing her, just a good "rev's up n down",using the full range of RPM's but not redline or beating her. Shifting her and not lugging.
Yesterday sunday with 279 miles on her,I dropped the oil n filter.
Much metalic shavings in the oil. Nexxt was cut open the filter. Again lotta metal shavings. Today we'll have another go with fresh oil and a good round of shifting.

The bike possibly feels quite smooth because the weather is so cold

...also cold air is more dense...more in the cylinder for combustion better running! Right temperature of air/gas= great atomization!
