Hi this is my first post and I suppose silly question for this forum.
I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel and my suffering at the hands of KTM is nearing an end.
I am looking to replace the 990 adventure and have a short list of three
Yamaha XT 660 Z Tenere
BMW F 800 GS
Triumph Tiger 1050.
Would love a Vee twin but no one does a good'en since my Africa twin went.

OK so they are different bikes with differing styles but all seem to offer what I want from a bike accept maybe the power on the Yam.

I have heard the the 800 GS has also suffered from "problems" and having had a belly full with the KTM I am interested to hear your thoughts !.

Hello ,and welcome. your choice of bike will surely have to be made after a test of each of them.
The more you research about a particular bike i have found, then the more problems are flagged up:blast

Pick the one that you like best then enjoy it when it goes ,then get it fixed when it breaks:D

Best of luck with your choice:thumb2

tiger

Had test ride on 1050 tiger...but now own 800gs. Completely different bikes.

Tiger is a road bike with a bit of tough guy styling, 800 can do proper offroad with right tyres, and does road work fine.

If you stay on road and want more power then buy Tiger, if you want more fun then 800.

Only my personal view!

I looked at those three. For me the Tenere was too tall, vibey and underpowered for the road work. The Tiger was a hot favourite but I wanted the option to do off road. I now own the 800 and have done over 32,000 miles on it in a year.

For me it's the versatility that I love. It will haul mountains of gear of need be at motorway speeds, do two up comfortably and also be great for throwing around in the dirt. Because of it's weight it can be a beast in mud and bog but for gravel trails I love it. :beerjug:

This is a BMW GS forum, you do know that, don't you? I'm assuming you've also joined a Tiger forum and XTZ forum.....let me guess, they recommend their bikes?

Well i am a member of this forum :comfort
I got the tenere over the 800 gs
And it was'nt because it was cheaper

Id like to know the answer to that one,i love the GS motorcycle but my Katoom is defo more smiles per miles so id be interested to know your probs with yours fella.........and as above Tiger = roadbike 800gs =dualsport like your KTM...........and welcome to the site.......:Motomartin

Buy an F800...you'll love it :bounce1 :bounce1 ...even if there any "issues", get it fixed, like wot the man said...and keep on loving it...most fun I've had on two wheels and, for those inclined, it takes well to the muddy/lumpy stuff...

So Go on what was wrong with the KTM:augie

Sorry cant say at the moment due to it being subject to a court case :eek

However thank for your replies, just booked a test ride next Wednesday, already been out on the Yam and the Tiger.
The Tiger is a great bike but license loosing speeds are gained to quickly and you don't have the option of doing any off road.
The Yam too in its own way is a good bike, but tall for an 5ft 8" incher and vi-by at motorway speeds.
Let see what Wednesday brings.

Like the other post says ,when you have riden all the bikes you are interested in make your own mind up....different strokes for different blokes an all that...its what bike that makes YOU smile the most that matters

I own a 09 ktm 990 adventurer r by the way which really makes me smile, its just so mad and agressive likes to be thrashed, and i have a 09 bmw gs 800 with all the kit and more also, this to is a great bike ,very easy to ride , great to tour on ,very economical ........a good all round bike.

Only you can decide what makes you smile the most

ps the bmw is for sale also :augie

they say they have there problems, but so far i have had trouble free riding on my 800. it all depends what you want out of a bike. Totally agree with previous comments....blag a test ride on each machine over a weekend then sit down on the sunday night, beer in hand and see which one makes you smile the most. Come monday ring a dealer!:beerjug: good luck

How do you find the MRA screen over the BM original? I think I need more height but BM touring screen wasnt enough.
Cheers

I had a massive amount of problems with the F650GS version of the F800GS--radiator hose, chain, wheel bearings, steering bearing, side stand switch, fuel gauge, etc. It was on a BMW recovery truck four times in 20,000 miles.

I appreciate some people have had absolutely no problems and I am pleased for them, but you only have to read the threads to gain an understanding of how many GSers have been affected by poor reliability on the F650/800GS and how slow BMW has been to effect solutions on some of the common problems.

It has certainly encouraged me to look elsewhere. By comparison my Tenere is bearing up nicely. It won't do 960 miles in 23 hours like the F650GS did, but it's great fun to ride.
