How long does it take BMW to build a bike and deliver it to the UK, I ordered a new GS 3 weeks ago and was told it would be about 1 month, I phoned yesterday to see if there was any news, and was told acording to their computer it was still in construction and they didn't know when it would be in. I know I'm probably being a little impatient, but a month to build and deliver seems a little long to me for a company that must be able to knock a fair number out daily and probably ships weekly to the UK, Anybody with similar experiences ?

Ha ha when I bought my first GS back in 2001 I had to wait months - there was waiting list in those days

If you want one with everything on it then they're usually ex stock. Anything other than fully loaded involves a lead time

So you'll just have to wait at least 2 months

You will not be the only one that has ordered a bike in europe, the factory might be able to churn them out but they can only make so many in one day.

I can't afford to wait 4 weeks, I had allready booked my bike onto the ferry for 4 weeks in Spain at the beginning of August before I was talked into trading the old girl in. And so I need it for at least a month minimum to run it in and get it ready for my extended trip. I wouldn't want to take a new machine fresh out of the crate without knowing it first

Plenty of time between now and then to get it sorted 1st service etc. Happy new bike whenever it arrives.

Approaching 49th birthday and have joined the exodus from from sports bikes, the GSXR 1000 is to be retired and like you waiting for my new bike to be built. I am one of the wierd ones that doesn't want my bike fitted with ASC, ABS, ESC or any other fancy sh1t. So have had to wait, does seem if I had gone for fully loaded bike it would have arrived much sooner. As newcomer to the GSA I can't help thinking that a bike sold on it's ability to just clear off and go anywhere should be as simple as possible enabling it to be repaired anywhere not just a main dealer in darkest, deepest Surrey. June 18th is the date I have been given, so fingers crossed it arrives before the summer is over!

Why not, it's only a motorbike...................not a new wife

Just put fuel in and get it serviced in Spain, if necessary or get 600 miles on it and do it before you go

I wouldn't trust a Spanish mechanic to dip the oil or check the washer bottle on my car, I have a 2004 spanish ford focus I keep in Spain that was supposedly garaged maintained. I have done loads of work on it including changing the timing belt brake disc's/pads new clutch/flywheel EGR valve and the usual day to day maintenance. and the bodge ups I've come across not to mention the wrong parts fitted and bolts missing would scare the average mechanic to death. In fact if it was a UK garage you would sue the arses of them. I also have quite a few friends down there who have all had issues with work done in garages in Spain. And so if I'm going to have anything done to this new bike it will have to be done over here before I set of , or I aint going

For the bike the main BMW Motorad agent is 10 mins away for any goodies but I choose to use a local independant BM specialist with an excellent reputation, hes a tad cheaper thats all.

It's a wonder there are any cars/bikes on the road in Spain at all

TBH it only needs an oil/filter change - if you're so worried either do it yourself or ask to watch while it's done at the WMB dealer

Dont be sorry for me, I'd be worried for for yourself, I'm at least mechanically savi enough to be able to recognise the bodge ups I've come across and put them right, I'm willing to bet there's thousands of vehicles in Spain in the same state as the ones I've come across , and so how sure are you that your vehicles have been serviced correctly and safely.

So what spec bike have you actually ordered?

When I was thinking of getting a GS 1200 Triple Black the end of last year I could have had one on the road within 48 hours provided I wanted Premium, Comfort & Dynamic packs. Anything without all the packs was factory order and about 6 weeks delivery

I've ordered a standard rallye with ABS and an alarm fitted as extras

Nice choice - not sure I'd bother with the alarm but definitely the best of the current range.
