I hace heard rumours of a new design boxer motor coming out next year, this was specifically for the 1200GSA - anybody know anything about this

I think you'll find its just the one that goes in the RT i.e. 110bhp with 98RON fuel. Its also destined for both GS and GSA alike.

Something I picked up too, so the production stop of the GS model could be related to this. Just for a color change the factory line would not be stopped. Something technical should be behind it. We'll see soon. :D

Is it just me, or is the concept of an 'Adventure' motorcycle that needs 98 RON fuel perhaps somewhat misguided. I really hope they don't go down that route.

The anti-knock sensors will mean that you can put lower RON fuel in, but if you want namplate rated horsepower you'll need 98RON.

In fact if you look at the BMW spec sheets for the RT, ST and R you'll see the following notice which I guess would apply to the new GS engine:

BMW Spec Sheet said:
Unleaded premium, minimum octane rating 98 (RON), automatic knock control permits operation with minimum octane number 95 (RON) .

There is a new boxer engine coming out next year. It’s the most powerful and highest revving boxer engine ever.
It has a DOHC and produces 133bhp @9500rpm.
However, its only available in the HP2 Sport which will cost £15k:eek:.

Now if only they would slot one of these engines into the GS….oooohhh:cool:

This latest member of the high-performance family draws its lineage from the endurance-racing-proven R1200S that won its class at Le Mans this year. BMW claims the HP2 Sport produces 128 hp at 8750 rpm and 84.8 ft-lbs of torque at 6000 rpm with a max rev of 9500 rpm, heralding these figures as more spunk than "the significantly modified engine of the BMW R1200S." We don't know if that's how BMW thinks of the mill in the R1200S, but according to them it churns out a claimed 122 bhp at 8250 rpm and 83 ft-lbs at 6300 rpm in standard trim.

The key difference in the Sport's engine are hopped-up cylinder heads that use a drag lever to open and close valves larger than those found in the R1200S. More performance mods include flowed intake and outlet ports, forged pistons, and "adapted" ("beefed-up" in Motorcycle.com speak) connecting rods, all meant to cope with those higher output figures mentioned above.
