GS??PAUL

Guest
:guitarist Hi to you all, my name's Paul and i am deciding if a GS is where i want to go. I currently ride a ZRX11OO kwak but i plan to re-start riding my bike as opposed to just looking at it and dreaming. This however causes me a problem, what bike is going to take me around this globe, in comfort, accommodating the large amount of luggage to do a long trip in comfort while offering a good tank range and weather protection.
:mcgun
for this reason the kwak has got to go, anyone interested, as it will not do the job to my required standard. i have an urge to discover the history of Europe by travelling through it then hopefully beyond. So i have narrowed my list of bikes to do these trips on to the GS, the Bmw RT1100/1150 or a Pan European(is that a swear word on this site, sorry if it is)

But which one, any opinions greatly listened to and any advice regarding the GS range eagerly awaited

WELCOME.
purely good road us ie.main,m/way,major routes then RT
road, tracks, around the globe, poorer countries and FUN factor GS.:thumb

... Get on your bike and go :thumb

... And if that's your mentality you'll do well on a GS, all you've got to do now is pick your flavour :D

Welcome Paul,

I think that although the GSs are more pricey for a given year than a RT or Pan, they offer a simmilar level of protection and comfort as a road-based tourer, you can get all sorts of stuff to add to the bike to suit you, and they still offer that "when the black-top runs out you keep going" type thing, the GS keeps your options open.
A good 1100GS can be had for good money, if it has got service history the milage is less of an issue.

hi and thanks to all replies i forgot to mention that budget is a factor in my final decision, maybe have 3 to 3 1/2 grand to spend, ultimately i want the best tool for the job of touring, my image conscious days are over and my pride is gauged by where i may visithow much fun i'll have getting there and how comfortable i will arrive as opposed to how cool i may look doing it. My heart veers towards the GS or the RT

Evening Paul, welcome. Was browsing Ebay earlier and there were one or 2 nice 1150gs's on there - classified ads, maybe worth a look. :thumb

Or, you could get one of these!

I have both a 1150Gs and a 1100RT, as an all round package, i would have to reccomend the GS, either a late 1100, or an early 1150, its true that the Gs offers less protection from the weather, than the RT, but if you spend wisely on choice extras, it can get very close to the RT protection wise, what you get with the Gs is easier servicing, better handling as you have more leverage on the wider bars, more accessories to tune the bike to yourself, if i had to pick only one of my bikes, then it would have to be the Gs :thumb

BTW I used to have a ZRX1100, great to look at, but simmilar to ride as a divvie 900, but without shaft drive :rob

Another tip, is to become a subscriber, then you have access to the "for sale and wanted" section, theres allways some well cared for pre owned bikes for sale and its the place, to buy accessories, well worth the subscription :augie

if you wanna tour and have fun - it's gotta be a GS :thumb

welcome
