Dear folks, I have a house extension to do in the south of France, not far from Millau. I require a 5 ton excavator and a 6 ton dumper. I have looked and emailed quite a few companies and what a price !!!!!.
Is there anywhere out there worth looking up or on the other hand get them hauled over?
Can anyone point me in the right direction please. :thumb2

Give these guys a call http://www.richard-long.co.uk/ they transport farm and plant machinery (old and new) all over Europe. My best mate is one of their drivers hence me knowing of them. They may even be able to source the kit you need as well as the transportation.

Hi F.O.D.
Lived out here for 7 years now and there aint anywhere cheap for plant !!! i'm in the trade and FR reg. but you're to far from me.
Take my word for it .....buy it in the UK and move it over here I did !! Payed £8.5k for a 3.5 ton mini with 4 buckets , pecker and trailer and within a week was offered €18k off a French builder.

Good luck as my brother-in-law owns a plant hire company, He was telling me that all 2nd plant is going to the eastern countries at the moment and is going for silly money.

How much have you got to spend?????????????? let me know and will ask him

I can also recommend Richard Long: reasonably prices and professional service. They moved a JCB telehandler to France for me and I couldn't fault them.

Are you sure you need a 5t digger and a 6t dumper? That is fairly hefty kit and can be a PITA getting into tighter spots. I would recommend a 2.7t digger (which can be towed behind a 4x4) and a telehandler which is a dumper, bulldozer and forklift all rolled into one.
Hewdens have a big auction coming up on 12th October: http://www.tsauction.co.uk/auctions/plant-equipment-auctions take along someone who knows what they are looking at and pay a little bit more for straight, low hours kit. It's better in the long run and you get more when you sell it. As has been pointed out: plant is probably about 20% more expensive then a couple of years ago because a lot is going abroad, still better than hiring in France though.

i must admit richard was the best on price for the haulage but when i got my quote all made up the client was not shocked with the price for the cost of everything and thats not with the materials over there. thanks again.:thumb2
