I've just acquired a BMW New City jacket and it would, benefit from a clean.

Anyone else got one and know what the best way to clean one is?

Thanks

Rich

does it have washing instructions on a tag?

If its waterproof and you don't have instructions DON'T use normal washing powder, use Nikwash, recommended for breathable fabrics like goretex. And if it doesn't have a lining you can follow that wash with another using Nikwax.

Can't find a tag but it does have a goretex liner so I think Nikwax products may do it but I think the shell may be lightly oiled hence my question of owners.
Ta.

Maybe late?... Better check with the dealer . It is lightly oiled ?

From BMW :

Material:
Outer material: Cordura® 500, lightly oiled.
Protectors:
Removable NP protectors at the shoulders and elbows offer superior damping properties.
An NP back protector may be retrofit in an integrated pocket.
Features:
Zip-in thermal liner.
Permanently wind- and waterproof. Breathing capability on account of the use of a climate membrane.
Width adjustment on collar, waist, waistband and sleeve hem, soft collar closure.
15.7" connecting zipper.
Pockets:
Four outside pockets and one waterproof inside pocket.
Logo:
BMW logo rivet in the front side seam.

Got to be honest guys. Always used Nikwax tech wash, but the ingrained dirt was just building up - it doesn't shift that - even with soaking.

YES washing POWDER is a BIG no no. Apparently the powder can clog and block the pores. I read that you can use a washing LIQUID with NO bleaching ingredients ( Don't use one that is for whites, obviously it has bleaching agents.) I used an Ariel liquid for colours and delicates. Cleaned my gore tex trousers well and they don't leak. (I could afford to try it as they are at least 6 years old). So if its grime you want to get out.... Nik wax tech wash is not your answer.

See under 'washing powder or liquid?' on the official Goretex website below.

I've used soap flakes to wash gore-tex/breathables. Seems as good as Nikwax. I'd be reluctant to use any biological laundery powders. Not so easy to find plain ole soap flakes though.
