Hi all,

I’m ready to install the new clutch slave cylinder - the corner has definitely been turned!

Just opened the packet - surprised to find two washers in there. They seem to have rubber centres…. Any clues as to what they’re for?

They’re not crush washers - at least not any type I’ve ever seen - and if they are then surely there would’ve been 4 included?

Cheers
Mike

They are Dowty washers

Thanks Neil - good to know, I’ve not come across them before. What could these be for in this application?

They don’t show on the fische, and the slave cylinder is held into place with three bolts. Could they be intended for the banjos - although four washers would be needed surely?

Importantly - can I safely ignore them and just assemble everything as per the fische?

They are not for hydraulic use , used behind a standard bolt instead of a normal washer , usually where there is a possibility of oil leaking past the fitting , cannot see why you would use them on a 1150 clutch... unless two of the three mounting bolts go through the gearbox casing.
Just had a look in the shed and garage but cannot find my spare 1150 gearbox to see

They could be for the bleed line which IIRC is an M6 banjo

Both the bleed line and the line to the lever are on m6 banjos (annoyingly small!) I’ve bought new BMW banjos and four crush washers from Motorworks as per the fiche.

The fact that there’s only two of these Dowty washers is what’s throwing me!

Just checked on the spare transmission which is split and there are no through fittings on the slave cylinder so assuming they are in there for the bleed line , just not what I would be using .

Thanks Neil, I appreciate you looking for me.

New slave cylinder is now on - just cleaned up and reused the old bolts and used a new gasket. Hopefully should be perfect!
